Am I right in thinking the pre-amp to the BA5000 is the ca3000?

Yessir! There was no CA-5000.

The BA is a beast, with McIntosh-style output transformers.

Thanks, I have my eye on one. Its a pity I could use my AU719 as a pre-amp.

Indeed, that's the one major shortcoming of the 719. The 717 and 517 both have preouts, and likewise, the 519 has preouts. I can't fathom why they left them off the 719.

Probably to save money. The 719 looks poorly finished inside compared to the 717.

Indeed, it lacks the same quality of finish and attention to detail. My father and I have every amp from the AU-117 to AU-919 in our collection (except for the AU-819) and the difference in the internal build quality in the 417, 519 and 719 are immediately obvious vs the other amps Thankfully they all sound superb!

It just seems weird that they retained the preouts on the 519 and deleted them on the higher-spec 719. You'd have thought that they'd delete them on both.
