Hello,
I'm new to the forum in terms of registering. I thought it was about time I stopped 'lurking' and got involved as I've picked up some bits of info from this (and other) forums.
Hopefully going to Scalford (arranged by the guys at Hifi Wigwam which is another forum I've been using recently as the upgrade bug has bitten again). As many of you seem to use both forums, I hope mentioned the other forum is OK?
It's speakers this time. In a year I've gone from Proac Tablette 50's (plus a part-time Rel Storm sub-woofer), to Pink Triangle Ventrical, and now to Castle Howards last weekend.
Both the Ventricals and Howards are quarter wave loaded designs as I seem to have grown a liking for a bit of bass. Nothing silly, just a full range speaker.
Ventricals may go with me to Scalford and then on ebay. Really great speakers with a superb emit R ribbon tweeter (as used in Neat Ultimatums) and the sweetest top-end I have heard in my own system. They don't go overly loud but sound superb. They just lack that bit of real 'get-up-and-go' when you want to listen at a bit bit higher than normal levels.
My current system compromises :-
Logic DM101 with Heed Audio Orbit power supply, RB600 & Denon DL304 or Ortofon MC25FL (depending on my mood). A truly superb turntable gifted to me by an old school friend (minus arm). It's own electronic power supply was iffy so I had to go from a DIY Armageddon to the Heed Orbit to keep it running.
Musical Fidelity XLP-S (sounds better to me than the internal phono stage on my amp but according to the manufacturer it shouldn't).
Musical Fidelity A300 amp. Will drive just about any speaker. 150W into 8ohms and 250W in 4 ohms. Plenty of grunt but subtle with it.
Musical Fidelity A3CD.
Castle Chester loudspeakers.
Musical tastes are wide and varied. Basically anything but rap or hip-hop. I seem to have grown a liking for 70's rock & pop recently (I think it's my age). The cheesier the better sometimes. I'm embarrassed to say Sweet and Slade get quite a bit of listening time.
I stuck with vinyl well into the 90's so bought some stuff that is quite rare on vinyl. I seem to have collected most of Paul Weller's stuff on vinyl and CD.
Anyhow, enough of my waffling. Hopefully I can contribute something positive to the forum.
