My lack of DIY skills are legendary but I knew I needed to pull my finger out and build something to store our CD collection in. I also knew that if I had to do any sawing and clever stuff like that I'd end up with a pile of wood and holes all over the walls.
So, we were in IKEA last Friday and happened across a whole load of drawer fronts in the cheapy corner. Bought 33 of them at 50 cents each and then a load of their Capita legs at 5€ for 4. Each level works out at €3.50 (not including the screws which were cheap as chips) which I thought was pretty reasonable...and they don't look too shabby.
Basically each shelf level is a drawer with a leg screwed in at each end and then balanced on the one below it....of course there's a little L bracket thingy attaching each shelf to wall. No cutting, no painting and no finishing off! Result!
I was quite pleased and there was barely any shouting at all!
I have another 22 drawer fronts and will get them up as soon as we buy more legs - i wanted to see if this was within my capabilities before buying loads!
Each shelf holds 50 cds.

Is this the start of something??? Who knows, next could be the hi-fi rack, then the speakers and then the world is your onion:)

Actually I've just taken delivery of a load of drivers and crossovers for a "DIY" project - I may well be in contact with you :-)

Spurred on by the encouragement here I've decided that DIY is dead easy and will now be taking on this (http://www.velocityaircraft.com/airplane-kit-price.html) as my next "challenge". I have 3 screwdrivers, a whole load of assorted screws and an electronic drill and so feel fully tooled up for the task in hand!

Ah, problem.....you will need a spanner to tighten your nuts up:)

Sounds like over-kill Stu. I have one from an old Meccano set somewhere you're free to borrow as long as you have it ultrasonically cleaned and re-plated after use :D
