Hi all I`m Jason

I am afraid I only just realised that we have to post here 1st when we join, so I apologise for that.

Basically I joined this site after browsing the web for info for a restoration of an old TT2 that I have just finished. I had a look at a few different threads and was basically enticed to join because most of the threads were from like minded genial folk who love hifi.

I am fairly new to retsoring vintage turntables, pretty much self-taught with some lessons and guidance form the electrician at work and I do it out of a passion for vinyl.
I have sold a couple to friends and others but basically for cost rather than as a money making scheme.
Also being a bloke I like taking stuff apart and putting it back together and the more restoration I have done the more I think TT`s are a work of genius.

I have a very modest system that sists well within my budget but to me produces a sweet sweet sound. My main system is:

Heybrook TT2, Origin Live fully modded RB300, AT440Mla, Cambridge Audio Azur 640P pre-amp, Marantz PM7200 amp, Marantz CD5400, Wharfedale 9.1 speakers. (No tuner as yet)

My 2nd system is:

Ariston RD40, Ariston (Jelco) Enigma tonearm, AT120e, Cambridge Audio Azur 640P pre-amp, Rotel RA960BX2 amp, Marantz CD5400, Tannoy F1 Mercury speakers. (No tuner as yet)

Like I say I have just finished restoring a Heybrook TT2 and did so with a view to selling on as usual, however I liked the sound so much after setting it up that it is now my main TT replacing an LP12.

If you look in the Analogue Art section you will see a thread I started that compares the two.

Nice introduction - I see that you've picked up on established protocol ;)

I too like the TT2. I had one in the 80s for quite a while, along with an Ariston RD11S. The LP12 is but a clone of both!

Your systems have been well put together, so you obviously know what works best and with what.

What music do you like?

Anyway, you seem to have settled in nicely, so enjoy!

Well that was weird.
Is there a time limit to writing a reply? I was in the middle of writing about my music tastes to Marco and now I can`t find it. I pressed submit and I got a message saying I was not signed in and when I did re-sign in my messgae had gone completely. Weird.
Anyway I like all kinds of stuff from folk, funk, blues, soul and jazz to dance, hip-hop, trip-hop and chilled electronica to reggae, scar, two-tone and punk to britpop, indie and a little taste of Goth. Fairly eclectic and what I play depends on my mood and the time of day. I have played occasional DJ sets at bars with friends and have managed to make 3 of my friends into vinyl converts.
I still listen to CD`s which is a great medium in itself, but not a patch on vinyl.

On a slight tangent can someone advise me about a shelf for a TT like my Heybrook?
I`m going for one of the Target VW1 shelves, but wood or glass for the best sonic results?

Hi Jason - this issue seems to be browser specific. There's no server setting to time out logins. May sure you're on the latest version of your browser. I find Firefox an excellent browser with no issues, if you still have trouble; clearing your cookies and re-logging in may also help.

If in doubt, select the post text before you hit submit, and copy it to the clipboard (control+c) - if you get dropped out, you'll be able to paste it back into a reply box by pressing control+v once you've logged back in.

Hi Jason

I would opt for wood rather than glass. Glass can and quite often adds an edge to things. Very heavy 10 mm glass isn't as bad but you might still have to use some form of additional isolation under the TT. The option if your mounting of the wall shelf is strong enough is to go with granite or slate. Slate being better as it is more dead. Don't go with marble it rings.

Like I say only a decent DAB tuner for now and then I will be done for a while until I am next tempted to restore / rebuild another Turntable.... Which knowing me won`t be long at all..... About a week maybe 2 but no more than 3. I like to tinker.
I`m going to put a couple of pics of my 2 latest restore jobs in the gallery.
