Hey everyone. Just signed up after being recommended this forum as a hotbed of Technics turntable lovers. Been into hifi since I was 13, when a Technics stack was the thing of dreams (to me at least). Worked in a hifi store for about 10 years until about 3 years ago. I've made a great many changes to my system along the way, but working in a hifi shop will do that to you.
I gave up on CD players about 5 years ago and now stream 60% and spin vinyl 40% of my listening time.
I love my speakers (Monitor Audio PL100), my streamer (Linn Majik DSM) and until recently at least my turntable (Gyro SE). Amps....are a work in progress for me, so lets not go there. Bought my first Techie recently (1200 mk2) and have ended up here because of it. I've had a quick look around and have already seen some interesting bits and bobs!
Oh yeah, last thing, the name is BB.

Yes, you've probably come to the right place for the Technics TT interest, but there's a lot more here besides that, as I'm sure you'll find.
What sort of music do you like to listen to?

Well, kind of everything really jazz, rock/metal, classical, hip-hop, bit of gospel and folk. Not really into country or opera (probably just because I have yet to find anything I like), but other than that I'm pretty open to most forms of music.
Last night, I listened to Rachmaninov, Seasick Steve and a live Foo Fighters album. That's reasonably typical for me. My wife thinks it's odd that I flit from one genre of music to another all the time (sometimes, track-to-track), but I juts listen to music I like, regardless of any genre people want to give it.

Hi Neil, welcome to AOS :) Not odd at all to flit from genre to genre; I quite like putting my streamed content onto random play and enjoy the strange juxtapositions that can result. Beats staring at a rack of 500 CDs trying ot decide what to play :lol:

Couldn't agree more. I used to spend ages looking for CDs, then deciding I only really wanted to listen to a couple of tracks before standing in front of them all for another 5 minutes again. Streaming has allowed me to listen to so much more and in a way I want to listen. Still love my vinyl to though....just fed up with my Gyro and never knowing if it sounds as good as it could because of the dark art of setting the thing up properly. I've got pretty good at it over the years (on mine and customer's decks too) but who is ever to say that it could sound better with a tweak here or there. A mod is different to a tweak!

There are 10,000 hi-forums out there but this seems to be the best one for the 1200 / 1210.
RobbieGong is quite correct about the financials. The nice thing though is that the 12xx is gives over to heaps of possibilities of tweaks.

Yeah I have to admit, at the time I thought it was a little extravagant, but it has really paid me back in spades....fab sounding rack (if you know what I mean!)

Yeah and I like the fact that you can add to it, a bit at a time and appreciate the upgrade path as you go along. It is also a little easier to afford if you can do it in instalments!
