Looking for something a bit out of the norm for loudspeaker spikes.

Stillpoints (http://www.stillpoints.us/) looked interesting until I realised it is £1520 for 8 Ultra SS. Is there anything around that is similar but cheaper?

Or just something that is a bit more rugged than yer average spike? Needs to be able to handle a speaker weighing in at around 170 pounds / 75 KG (guessimate).

Foo concept type stuff fully welcome for consideration.

You may wish to consider the spiked stands on top of Mana bases

If they're that heavy why use spikes? Just use speaker shoes (like the ones Tannouy supplies) or how about:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171238220045?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171238220045?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649)

or one of the many isolation bearing type solutions (there's a relatively economical one, the name escapes me for now)

Why do you need something out of the norm"?

Four reasons for a spikey type approach:

1) One side of the speaker is heavier than the other, and they will look lopsided (as my current ones do) if placed on the flat aluminium bases, due to varying carpet/underlay compression.

2) Need to be able to adjust the rake angle of the speaker so it is inclined backwards at 2.5 degrees.

3) The concrete floor isn't flat anyway.

4) Despite the mass, they sound better on spikes particularly in the bass region.

Your ebay link is under consideration - I'm sure it is the same as another item I saw elsewhere. Forgot to say need something with an M8 thread.

Something unusual/out of the norm would just be cool, really.

Interesting - used to have a Mana TT stand - the most resonate thing. Will pass on it but it would look interesting:)

Plenty to choose from on ebay and not silly money

If you can use these they are quality and superb, one the best upgrades I've ever done. You can also move speakers with ease and without damaging the floor or lacerating your foot  Look cool too.

Oh, forgot to say they do these in M8 thread too :)

+1. Great underneath turntable platforms, too.

They are great - I've used them for years.
But....
...not the best option on your average carpet, I think.

A good solution may be a spiked platform with the speakers sat on top via the Superspikes. That way the spikes will find their way through the carpet and underlay. Soundcare make them in all sorts of thread sizes - mine are a 1/4" thread to fit my Mirage speakers and they are ~63kg apiece.

I'm inclined to agree wih you, Chris. I tend to feel something needs to hit the ground proper to stop the speaker moving, and the only real way is a spike of some sort. Even the Stillpoints don't fit that criterion.

Do like the looks of the Soundcare Titaniums, though they have a large diameter base that won't be great on carpet. They are also very pricey.

Thanks to Rob for bringing them up.

This guy has started to make a very interesting range of feet. Combine different materials, range of products for different applications, and some are adjustable.

Spoke to him a few months ago. Couldn't find what he wanted, so made his own and has gone on from there sad a nice sideline.

Improved my Isobariks. I was prepared to be unconvinced and use them as normal Sound bases, but they stayed where they were

Very nice stuff for the money, however no M8 thread devices.

I can believe it - probably look good too and BTW Isobariks are a fave speaker of mine. Not heard any for so long - what a shame. Linn should re-introduce them.

I'm liking these in silver: Viablue QTC (http://www.viablue.de/com/spikes_qtc_silver.shtml) with the M6 to M8 (http://www.viablue.de/com/thread_sticks.shtml) sticks.

Sturdy looking and good for 200KG. UK dealers not easy to contact - slate audio website link fails, and AngelSound gets blocked as a dangerous website by Norton. Mind you, Norton can be soooo wrong sometimes.

Word has it that the ViaBlue spikes have issues. Really quite annoying ones.

So actually I am just going to use these: http://www.trackaudio.co.uk/floor/floor.html. They seem needlessly expensive over some much cheaper ones, so that makes them a fine choice.;)

Justin, why don't you fit some track audio spikes?

Oh, just seen your last post lol.. I use them on our rack system, they are fine. How many do you require?

Based on the feedback here, I recently bought some M8 versions for my HiFi rack, as it sits on a suspended wooden floor. Not ideal, but not easy to change. They work well, and protect the floor. They were much more expensive than my previous solution - 1pence coins, but every time I needed to move the rack, I was in danger of wrecking the floor. This worry has now gone.
