Floods and wave surges

My thoughts go out to all those affected by the terrible weather we've been having, most especially those who've lost homes and business, and of them, some farmers on the Somerset levels seem to have lost everything. I hope that everyone here still has dry feet. We came close but seem to have got through it ok. This really has been the worst spell of destructive weather I can remember in my living memory. We were lucky just to lose part of a greenhouse to the gales. I for one don't trust a word the government says about money no object spending to put things right. There's thankfully a number of flood charities springing up who seem to be (quietly) doing a heck of a lot for those who've lost everything.

Indeed. We are pretty fed up with the constant rain here but we have had no real wind and so its just a bit soggy. I can't imagine what it must be like in the UK right now. This lot 'in power' in the UK seem to be incapable of either planning or rational thought. Politics seems more about staying in power than actual government. I wish there was something ordinary people could do to help but most, after all, have their own problems. Something like this needs a centralised and efficient response. Not much chance it seems.

we got hit with the first big storm back on October 28th.Driving through Germany at the time when neighbour called to tell us that there had beenmajor flood through our property.
whilst bad enough (up to 18" muddy water through the property) it was nothing compared to some of the recent floods in Somerset.

Decided to drive home immediately but windscreenwipers on Cayenne decided to pack in so had to dodge the raindrops through Germany, Belgium, France and UK.

We did ok til around Bath turn on M4. it was 9pm, raining hard and we had zero viz, so pulled up the slip road and into a nearby carpark. Turned out to be Bristols top dogging site! all those doggers and not one knew how to fix the windscreen wipers on a Porsche Cayenne!

Anyway, got home, assessed damage and now, exactly three months on, we are almost back to normal. Insurance sorted and not too much loss of irreplaceable items. Its a horrible experience and I really feel for those poor people going through it now. not all will have insurance companies and some will never get back to normal.
