With thanks to Barry for pointing out the address issue. Whilst I am fairly relaxed about these things - I have posted my accountancy website before, oh - lets do some marketing www.tb-a.co.uk , which has my contact details on, it probably makes sense to avoid leaving details gratuitously and unnecessarily on the web. So thanks Barry (I have put the dogs on a bonus plan for the next month!)

A replacement pic

(OK - not so hard to guess, but safer!) ;)

Is it a Yamamoto cartridge by any chance?

Sadly, i have to take someone out to dinner tonight, so unpacking photos will need to wait for the weekend...

It says phonograph stylus on the package, is that a red herring or is it really a cartridge?

Are you happy for your name, address and telephone number to appear so publicly?

Having revised the pic at the start of the thread, I might as well 'fess up

Not that it should have been hard to guess

I might bring it out with me for you to have a listen. I have a feeling you'll be rattling your piggy bank for one. I am going to do a bit more listening first, not least because, and don't take the piss, I think it may be running in a bit. But I think I am likely to buy another, and stop looking elsewhere. I have solved the "flat soundstage" which was bothering Sue and I last night (forgot I had left a cheap sub-woofer in play) and it is now quite astonishing. Almost like a hybrid Technics / Decca. The U205 was always a fine cartridge, but never the most sparkly. I have heard it called soft or dull, although I think both terms are too strong. But not with that sparkly top. This new stylus profile transforms that. It's verging on "bright". And it is SOOO good with surface noise. Mind it brings half a jumper up on the cantilever if the record is not pristine.

Very pleased for day 1

Excellent. I'm pretty happy with my after market stylus quite honestly. I have a few other cartridges and it wipes the floor with them (Shure, Rega, Audio Technica) as it is. However, as you know, so long as the hi-fi communicates the music to me, I tend not to get bogged down in minute differences.

Entering into the spirit a bit and relating to another thread, I have a Soundstyle rack which uses glass shelves. I popped a nice thick shelf from a bedroom unit on it yesterday (veneered chipboard) and the TT has lost the edge that I didn't much care for. Might try the rest of the shelves if I get a day off from finishing off the work to the roof. Its bloody huge. The roofers are going to bring back all their scaffolding so I can reach the top of the walls to concrete in the gaps. Five metres is a bit beyond the scope of my tower.

The building work is going to use up any pennies that might (or might not) have been used for fun stuff, so it will be quite a while before the hi-fi gets any fettling at all.

I'm sure I have seen that stylus profile elsewhere - think it was called a "micro ridge". It looks ideal to me: having a very small minor radius to allow detail extraction, yet is supported by a larger volume of diamond for strength.

Would be interesting to know how such a stylus compares with the Fritz Geiger, Replicant or the Weintz parabolic profile.

I wouldn't know Barry. It's my first deliberate excursion into exotic stylus profiles and I'm chuffed to bits. I would be interested in the results of your comparisons. The choice of boron as cantilever material was also important to me. I am sure it had a lot to do with the originals qualities. Results are very pleasing :)

There was more on the other side if that is of interest. Again, apologies for the jpg quality

I'm not sure if that helps you compare it to the other profiles you mentioned, but it quotes the dimensions
