View Full Version : Which artists/bands do you play the most?
I am often fascinated by the wide divergence of musical tastes that members of AoS have, from those that seem to concentrate on specific genre to those who appear to have no boundaries (Alex :lol:). I think I have a reasonable handle on the regular posters tastes but thought it might be interesting to see which three artists/bands people currently play the most (not historically, but right now).
Easy for me to do as I use Last.fm, but if you don't track what you play, what's your best guess?
This is me at the moment;

Jackson Browne
Steely Dan (or related solo efforts). Pretty much always playing some Dan.
Otherwise it's hard to say, I don't think I concentrate on any other particular artist or band.
I play so much music, including a lot of classical which you don't seem to be asking about here.
Modern artists on constant rotation for me are:
- Van Morrison
- Joan Armatrading
- ELP (or it could be Yes on a different day)
Classical artists:
- Shostakovich
- Mahler
- Beethoven
Velvet Underground, Half Man Half Biscuit, The Fall, Haydn, Mozart, Muddy Waters.

I deliberately mix up the day and sometimes find albums much better than expected.

Apart from my recent rediscovery of P. Tree which has been occupying rather a lot of my time of late, I haven't a clue what the next two would be.
Hi Tim , could not give you just 3 more like 300, but some that are never too far from my record players are
the Beatles, VU, Bowie ,Mozart (symphonies and opera's) PIL , LKJ, and a recent discovery thanks to Chris (the Grandest Wazoo) flower travellin' band

I'm grateful that Frank left an enormous legacy of wonderful music, sometimes strange, sometimes beautiful, sometimes downright crude and bawdy, but always interesting and wonderful.
Big John? Well I was astonished to realise that he's been gone for 5 years now. Doesn't time fly?
His music is raw and personal, and strikes a chord within me every time I hear it.
Daft Punk just hit the essence of the moment with their big hit album of 2013, and it's been blessed with the touch of Nile Rodger's peerless funky guitar playing. 'Nuff said!

Haha, I guess a lot think I just like female Americana artists, but if you actually look at what I play the most my top 3 are all male singer/songwriters.
Royksopp . . . now who are they? My guess would be electronic something but Spotify here I come.
everyone seems to be banging on about Daft Punk so I have just checked them out on U-Tube. Not sure what I was expecting but it wasn't Seventies disco.., quite likeable though, might buy an album.

Can't understand what the attraction is
They don't come out great on Amazon samples and.....
cycling along one day I spied a CD on the grass, lobbed out or dropped

Someone brought LG's "If you wait" along to a recent bakeoff it sounded awesome and if he didn't, I would never have gone for it to be honest. 3 second clips of some tracks on the TV advert really didn't give an true indicator how good the album is

I would agree about London Grammar. Hannah's vocals really jump out into the room!
The good thing about London Grammar is the evenness of their album - it's not just Strong and a load of unmemorable songs. I'm finding Lorde's album a rather good all-rounder, too.
I don't tend to play my favorites very often and never listen to stuff like Oasis and Guns'n'Roses both of whom I love because its too noisy.
Through album club and what you listening to threads on Hi-Fi forums I'm finding new to me artists.

As far as I can remember, you're the first person apart from me on AoS that's mentioned Elliot Smith. His albums were all excellent as far as I'm concerned.

All I can say for some of those is I hope you're alright with screamed vocals. That list is largely composed of emo, screamo, post hardcore, a bit of alt, pop-punk, and a hip-hop group. If you go on Bandcamp you can download Emo Side Project and Hampshire's stuff free
As far as I can remember, you're the first person apart from me on AoS that's mentioned Elliot Smith. His albums were all excellent as far as I'm concerned.
I love him - the sensitivity of his voice is absolutely amazing. Not to mention is skill at guitar.
All I can say for some of those is I hope you're alright with screamed vocals.

I'm glad you take that attitude - I always love finding new music. I went through that massive thread of things that people recommended for enjoying with hi-fi gear and found some nice stuff
