I have sent my lovely Decca Blue (late of Glenn Croft) off to Presence Audio to have a Deccapod fitted - they serviced it a couple of years ago so it's in top flight nick. I was using it in a Sumiko headshell with a Decca 5g weight. With the Deccapod I wont need the weight any more. I have a choice of 3 headshells: Sumiko HS12 (12g), Jelco HS25 (9g) or Oyaide HS TF (8.5g) - in a Jelco 750D

My thinking was to use the Oyaide as it is better damped and the Deccapod should add sufficient mass but interested to hear comments.

I will use the Decca alternately with the new Zyx R100.02 I have ordered and the math say this will work best in the Sumiko sans additional mass.

The obvious answer is to try all three to find out which you prefer.

Some time ago I loaned my Deca Gold to Marco for audition. The cartidge was fitted in the GB mounting block and the headshell was (I think) a Sumiko. Perhaps Marco can confirm this but whatever the make of headshell, Marco was very impressed with the sound and performance of the cartridge.

Very true but it is a real PITA swapping out and setting up 3 headshells (and then I bet I'd forget what the first one sounded like) and to be perfectly honest I just don't have the time at the moment so a "technical steer" would be welcome

I guess what I am really asking is whether anyone has a view on whether the improved damping of the Oyaide would likely be "a good thing" for the Decca given the amount of energy they transmit into the arm in comparison to the "standard" Jelco/Sumiko.

As I say I have the math worked out resonance wise for the forthcoming Zyx and the Sumiko should be spot on there.

I have just had a look at the article I wrote describing the installation of my Decca into Marco's headshell. The headshell was a Jelco (but if Jelco make more than one type, I'm not sure which one it was that Marco used).

How is the 'damping' of the Oyaide headshell achieved?

Many thanks Barry.

The "damping" was an observation/comment of Marco's presumably relating to the carbon fibre properties.
