Hi Lads,

I have recently got one of the above tape decks but it does have a couple of issues and i would like to know whats causing it.

Firstly it Plays / FF / RW & Records fine but i have a squeak when the tape is Rewound to the beginning could be belts also there is a strange wearing sound when the tape is playing :scratch:. Otherwise all fine maybe im just fussy.

Maybe it just needs a good service i have cleaned the 2 heads they were filthy

Does the 'squeak' occur with all tapes? Are they of the same brand?

What do you mean by a 'wearing sound'?

Sounds like it might just need a service. If you send it to B&W (UK service agents for Nakamichi), they will replace all the belts, lubricate all moving parts, and will return the machine sounding like new. They are not cheap however.

Hi

Yes the squeak is on most tapes but then sometimes completely fine. The wearing sound i can only describe it as something playing fine but background noise of running slow:scratch:.
