Hi,

I've registered to gain more knowledge on hifi separate systems basically. I'm trying to start a collection, but there's quite a lot of what seems to be really poor faux audiophile gear out there and I'm reluctant to waste money.

I just received a Sonos system for my birthday which I'm quite excited to open - just bought a house and it's being renovated so everything is up in the air.

I love vinyl, and have some 1210's (Which I'm appalled to find some people dislike!? *whathifi). I don't think I'll ever be swayed on my decks, but I would consider buying a Project turntable at some point.

I do not want to spend £1000's of pound on gear (yet), but I am attracted to the odd bit of vintage gear.

I think more than anything, I've found wires and the different types of speaker connectors the most confusing thing - will modern hifi speakers work with old amps / will that *passive pre amp I've seen work with this/that

Aye, I love my Technics. I sold mine when I started uni a while a go and I've recently, just bought another set.

I used to use them solely for DJing and paid no attention to the settings and stuff. Recently learned how to set the tone arm correctly so I'm improving my sound at no extra cost at the minute!

Hi Steve, welcome to AOS :) There are a few people on the forum who use, and think highly, of the Tisbury passive preamp, it would be worth seeking their advice regarding system matching. What music do you like to listen to?

Absolutley Anything, depending on the situation really; from EDM (Nosaj Thing/Brainfeeder/Mount Kimbie/Daft Punk), to Jazz (Coltrane/Davis) and Blues and Classical (Holst/Zimmer/Glass).

Yeah, loving that Tisbury preamp, I will definitley seek out some knowledge on that.
