If you have blu tooth on the laptop I can recommend one of these, solid build and a very decent sound.

For that price, with those reviews, it may be worth a go.

A speaker I have always been very impressed with is the X-Mini II. It is £10 if one shops around, and is ultra small, ultra portable, and doddle to set up and pack. I like the single speaker, throw-in-your-bag design and have always been well impressed by the sound for its size and price. I even carry it around sometimes if I want to share what's on my MP3 player or improve on the tablet/smartphone sound & volume.

Of course if you want top sound at home or traveling and don't mind a bit more fuss, size, and weight (3Kg), consider the Audio Engine 2.

You might check out this review of the miniRig. Check other colours for stock.

I ordered a pair of these as I wanted something a bit better than the laptop inbuilt speakers and they are great. They were a bit bass light until I realised you have to access the properties menu and turn on the bass boost. they are not in any way as good as proper hi/fi as we know it, but for £20 they are great. They also come in a nice soft travel bag that will keep them safe. measure about 31/2 inches cubed each.

Thanks for the recommendation Mark - I picked up a pair just for the hell of it to take skiing and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised with the Sq and volume available from just 500ma on the USB port. The NXT driver must be very sensitive.

I like the fact that there is no need for an external psu or batteries. A great buy for £20 if you need a small light travel rig!

I find a pair of Grado RS2's work well for me,and you can still hear someone talking to you.:)

JPW Mini Monitor, but only if you are willing to have a separate amp.

must disagree in the nicest possible way there.

I have a pair of Minirigs + one of their subs to give proper 2.1 sound. Although pricey, i've really never heard anything like them. How the hell they pump that much volume out of small speakers and phenomenal rumbling bass out of the 3" dedicated sub. + 50hours battery playback - show me something else that does that!!

Well worth a look and i don't recall seeing anything on Amazon that get's that good consistent reviews.

One of those rare really well made quality products that you feel easily justifies the price.

Getting a lot of real following from DJ's who take on the road.

I have one of these (the platinum) and it sounds very very good. Even without subwoofer. And even with a bluetooth connection to my iPhone.

So how would you describe the character of the sound from these minirigs... Or the foxl? punchy, relaxed, warm, cool but detailed? I know they're only 100 quid, but some description of sound character might be useful.

The foxl has amazing abilities to transport the musical message. More bass as could be imagined given the minuscule size, quite clear treble and (most important) a communicative midrange. Listening to the Foxl is FUN!
