Here is my system, sta15 is sensible enough, so I make the connect cable as short as possible, attenuator as volume control, it is a good match for my speakers, sounds great to me. A cup of Chinese tea for Chris, thank you for the suggestion.

I like that, very classy. It looks good together, and it's nice to see some less common equipment being paired up. I also like how the amplification takes centre stage. I'll have to do some research on Radford kit, seeing as they're also local to me :)

Cheers

Hi Scip,

Wow, so you went and got yourself a Radford - and not just any old Radford -an STA15 at that!!
And thanks for the tea!!

I'm sure you'll find that amp is a great match for your speakers - it looks like it's in good condition, too.

I have found that something heavy on top of the transfomer cover improves the sound a bit (removing it completely makes a relatively big difference, but you don't want to do that for the sake of safety) I use a heavy set of laminations from an old mains transformer, lying on their side so the heat can escape through the square hole in the middle where the windings used to be.

Enjoy it!
Chris

Wow, very nice amp, that could be a pic here, except that mine is a STA25 III and the LS3/5a are Chartwells.

You probably know that the STA15 is really a genuine 22 Watts RMS per channel, STA25 is 32 (I think).

They look like Mullard EL34's, would be nice to try GEC KT77, but they are rediculous price (I have four from years ago), however the JJ KT77 works well in my STA25.

I checked valves, besides GZ34 Rectifier Tube, others are Mullard, GZ34 marks CVC 84-09 on it, I think it may not be the original, I will change it and see what happens.

I enjoy it and thanks for all your replies.

regards,
Mawen

My STA15 has supplied me with more fun than any amp I've ever known - even during the long period that I used it with a Naim CDI.
