any thoughts on oak feet for my speaker stands

What floor do you have the stands on ?

have stands with spikes into carpet

Keep it like that or else the stands will wobble all over the place. If you still fancy wooden feet, pop down to Homebase or B & Q and buy a pack of cupboard handles.

Suspended floor or concrete?
I have a suspended floor with a huge cellar underneath and found that putting the speakers (or stands) on concrete paving slabs (I painted them black for domestic harmony) had a positive effect on the sound. Others have used isolation foam underneath marble slabs or paving-type slabs to good effect - Auralex do this kind of product IIRC.
