Where does the tonearm ground go?

This morning I took apart my new (to me!) SL1210 to make a few modifications (I successfully removed the power, strobe, and pitch control - many thanks to Qwin for his support).

Anyways, when putting it back together (it works by the way!) I cannot recall where the grounding goes for the tonearm cable. Obviously one end goes to my phono stage, one on the "pillar" (not sure of the technical term) of the SME arm protruding below the plinth, and then there's another one tailing off which I guess went on the turntable itself somewhere....but I have no recollection of unscrewing it. That'll teach me! (There's also a black rubber grommet left over too :mental:)

Anyone know where the ground goes?

And while I'm asking, what does it do exactly?

If my memory is correct the earth is screwed to the corner of the pitch facer PCB on the side of the TT.
It just AFAIK allows a continuous path for the earth from PSU to phono preamp.

Yes, on one of the attachment screws for the pitch fader is the usual position.

I just removed the earth for the stock arm, my new tonearm cable came with a grounding wire and plugged that into the grounding point on the phono amp or on the integrated.

My tone arm has a five pin mini din socket (same as SME arms I think) and one of those pins is the earth.

BTW, I followed speedysteve's instructions on removing a stock Technics tonearm.
