Hi to all, especially Frank "Effem", Icehockeyboy, Technobear and any old mates from the Wigwam and elsewhere. Some old-timers might remember me as a maker of solid silver cables some years ago. Sadly, not any more - only a few old prototypes left in the toybox now.

My system :

Cary Audio 303/300 CDP with valve and solid state outputs running simultaneously, so you can switch between them mid-disc to see which you prefer (I always wondered - is this the only CDP in the world that does this?)

2 x Pathos Classic One hybrid amps running in mono (170 wpc from valves! Well, ok, valves with a solid state booster section...)

Sonus Faber Concertos Mk.1

Plus a few pounds of my own solid silver mains, interconnects & speaker cables.

My music is mostly 70s and 80s prog and rock especially Yes, Genesis, Rush, Marillion, Renaissance, Oldfield, Giltrap ; lots of female vocal and Irish stuff, Kate, Tori, Clannad, etc.

Other interests - skydiving (current European & Commonwealth record-holder), home DIY/restoration, driving my TVR convertible when it's warm (not often, now I'm in Blackpool ¦:¬( )

Welcome to AOS. You have a lot of other interests-skydiving, sounds a bit wild! And the TVR, what model and engine? I always fancied the 5 litre Griffith but haven't yet taken the plunge!

Hello and welcome Bob.

Interesting system you have and you'll fit in here with your music tastes.... In fact there's a thread here you may find interesting http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?29638-generally-why-are-most-Audiophiles-Prog-quot-nuts-quot

Get stuck in....

Hi Stiarno. Thanks for your reply. The car is a 1989 S2 with the 2.9 Ford Cologne engine, but I've had a few mods done over the years, including a stage 2 rebuild with bigger valves and hot cam which takes the power from 168 to nearly 200 BHP on the dyno.

The 5 litre Griffith has a bit of a reputation as a "widowmaker" so if you haven't driven high power/low weight cars before, I would advise working your way up via a couple of less grunty cars. Also, the 5 litre engine is heavily bored out and modified, and tends to be a little temperamental and needs more regular tuning compared with the smaller Griffith engines. The 4.2 , 4.3 and 4.5 all run smoother and need less attention. Best of all are the pre-cat models. Power outputs tended to be over-stated for all the Rover engined cars - don't believe the TVR published figures. But in real life you probably wouldn't notice the small difference in power by opting for one of the smaller engines - it'll still scare the pants off you, whatever the capacity!
