Hi All

I have limited resources in finding a good place to get the caps to recap the Marantz CD75MK2, and CD850MK2. Element14, has just Nichicon and only 4 HZ to choose. Digikey seems to have a lot of caps including the SilmicII from Elna, but not the Cerafine which I have read around are comparable with Blackgates.

Unfortunately, both CD players have 2 x Nichicon MUSE (bipolar caps) rest are Nichicon VX. I could get a fresh lot of MUSE Bipolar.

My thoughts were replace the Muse BP ES with new ones, then silmicsII, power supply not sure lower values silmicIIs and Nichicon? for the larger power caps. Opamps LM4562

For the CD75:

Replace the diodes with 11DQ10 Schottky.

Main PSU caps with Panasonic FM.

(Carefully) squeeze blutack around the clock crystal.

Big OSCON (270uf) on the SAA7220.

Analogue PSU caps (around the opamps) with Elna Silmic.

Cut out the muting transistors (http://margo.student.utwente.nl/klaas/audio_cd.htm)

Some more info on what is fundamentally the same player: http://www.raylectronics.nl/cd65II_mods_en.html

I didn't like adding the LM4562, keep the existing ones in.

I wouldn't go much further than this as something like an Arcam Alpha+ (the 2x transformer version) is a much more capable TDA1541A player.

Oh and I cannot stress enough the importance of wearing a grounded anti static strap when handling the transport mech!

Also the tracks lift very easily, so use desoldering braid and don't leave the iron on the pads for more than a couple of seconds.

Hi Neil,
Thank you for the help and links. I noticed on the Marantz CD50SE i bought moddifed from UK ebay, the seller has used 220uF 10V caps around the DAC. I have to look at a CD50SE manual to see the values but the CD75MK2 there is 3 x 47uF25V caps. Currently the SAA7220 has a Nichicon 47uF25v. Lampazitor really liked the Oscon, and I think they are available at Element14, if not digikey.

Its like crossover caps in that the voltage can be increases, however capacitance can be increased with CD players.:)

Not sure where the clock crystal is, but ive taken out the transport already :( I hope I havent damaged it, it is boxed and taped, since we had very humid hot weather here, and i treated it with great care.

I use goot desolder, it works a treat and i took out the rca socket board on the cd50SE since one of the sockets is damaged, i might put the CD75MK2 one the CD50S. The 11DQ10 Schottky are in the power supply, I will match the numbers with the link you gave me of the guy in Holland, I wont go to town like he did though, as you said the case isnt very flash, even the CD50SE has a better case. Ive seen those Arcams :( sadly always too much well here anyway, keep a lookout for that player though.

I did a drawing of all the caps on the board, now I know the important areas

Thanks again
Cheers

Marantz CD75MK2 sounds awesome with her mods. I had to go to my friend who's Tech, and the markings on the PCB had the -ve around the wrong way, hence the pop I was getting after about 3 tracks. The large SilmicII cap, I had to put it at an angle to fit it.

Board consists of Elna SilmicII, Nichicon FG. KW and ES. Pano SU for the laser.
