Just broke the cantilever on my 103r. Pissed off doesn't even begin to describe it. :steam::steam::steam:

That's a real pisser, mate... Few things in life are so frustrating :(

How did it happen?

Marco.

Was putting the headshell weight on as it had finally arrived. Just cleaning the cantilever with a soft brush. Can't believe how easily it came away, must have been damaged previously.

Jeez, not when fitting your headshell weight - you've been waiting on that arriving for ages... It happens so easily, though.

Dom will certainly be able to fix it for you. That would be my first port of call. Maybe get him to upgrade the cantilever at the same time? ;)

Know how you feel Dude. Did something similar to my Cadenza Bronze last summer. Thank G.d I'm still friendly with the guys at Henley.

Aye, that'll be the plan. Cart's only a couple of months old though!

If prices I was quoted are accurate I'm afraid it will cost as much to repair as it will to buy another new one :(

That's tough. I did the same myself on a nearly new DL-103.

Get him to upgrade the cantilever and tip that way at least its improving the performance for your money

Ali Tait

Aye, he can rewind too.

Hold on a 'mo, Ali was the cart new? If so and the cantilever came off with normal cleaning, then the thing was faulty, not "Fit for purpose" under terms of the Supply of Goods Act. Where did you get it from?

Ali Tait

Bought it from an Ebay seller. Could try that I suppose.

New or used. trade or private? Don't forget fleabays buyer protection scheme. The thing should not break on cleaning :(

New, but from a seller in the USA.

Claim on your house contents insurance, it's what I did when I crunched a cartridge a few years ago....

Ali Tait
12-01-2014, 21:21
Aye, another option.

PaulStewart

eBay buyer protection in the first place, save putting your premiums up. However, when I had a cantilever crunched a few years ago, I got the Koetsu sent back to Japan and rebuilt on the Household insurance.

Marco

Household insurance will defo cover the repair/replacement costs.

Ali, when you were brushing the stylus/cantilever, I presume that you were doing it from the back towards the front, not the other way round?

Marco.

Good luck with the insurance, you just got that puppy set up!
Similar ( bit not the same) brown trouser moment for me a few years ago...
All my music was on an external hard drive...sitting on top of my PC tower.
Knocked it off with my knee...it went !boing! and I lost 1TB of music.

Got most of it back and Im a lot more careful now, back but hindsights a great thing.

I feel your pain! Mine was almost new when I did mine. Sent mine to ESCo who sent it back in a much higher state of tune than it was ever from new ;) cost more than the cart did new to fix it but it was well worth it!

Thought something had happened to you Scott seeing as you never answer your e-mails? Please don't use the "spam box" excuse

To be honest, I'd rather go and watch Monty Python than answer a load of e-mails.

Maybe it has to do with his wife (who does the e-mails) having major surgery recently for a serious illness and trying to recover while still working (not recommended but hey the customer is king right?)

Dom or a new cart are best but avoid claiming on insurance, you'll pay more for your insurance over the next few years. It's rarely worth claiming for relatively small amounts.

Bad luck...it's a real bummer when your relaxing hobby brings grief.
