Oh I get so nervous with these first dates...

My name is Dan and I have a sub-bass in the kitchen.

Lurking in a cupboard next to the Wok, cullenders and cheese grater.
It adds depth to the sound and my cooking. This morning a quick go on Radio 3 was typical- the gentle piece built up, until the kick of some timpani entered, pleasing and slightly silly. Washing up to Chain Reaction, cooking to dub etc.
The kitchen is not a place for accuracy, since the boiling kettle, frying pan, washing machine and humming fridge cover it with noise.
Most folk seem content with an iPhone dock filling the room with tinny sounds, friends marveling how the tiny dock speakers create a room-filling sound. Nonsense! Air has to move, and lots of it.

Hello!

A subwoofer in the kitchen :stalks: that's a first.

Oh, since you ask...

Its a B&W 2500 sub

A Yamaha AV Receiver (not sure what but needed a sub level output for the above, figured a good AV amp can be had for peanuts on eBay if there's no HDMI)

Some awful Mission floorstanding speakers that were being chucked out at my brother's apartment block. I glued the front panels back on that had caused the farting sound that induced their original rejection to the streets. Later realised that though floorstanding, the lower half were a separate sealed chamber of no acoustic value. I have chopped then in half so one sits on the Fridge-Freezer while the other hassles the tomes on the cookbook shelf. Honestly, I thought Mission were once a reasonable brand.

But the sound is fun. Spoken word is unpumped, so Sandi Toksvig's sexy voice is free of boom (the sub frequency is set looow) but when needed, the music produces hilarious amounts of bass for culinary duties.

Yoikes! I only listen to good music, actually.

All sorts. I've been enjoying recently The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby.
