Mike, I picked up a Systemdeck with mission 774 arm, near as dammit brand new before Christmas because they were a bundled deal with a Technics U205 cartridge I have been desperate to get hold of for years.

I have provisionally promised first refusal to a friend, but the short version is, should he ever get round to looking at it, I still doubt he wants to go "that hifi".

The plinth has a couple of streaks on it which might clean, but it has spent all but 20 months of its life boxed in a wardrobe, and has all original packing, accessories, instructions. If you don't know the Systemdek 1 it was basically a Linn LP12 inspired suspended deck with some improvements, like easier 45 rpm setting, easier suspension adjust and arm cable dress, sub-chassis which didn't "boing" (well, not as much).

I'd never heard one before tbh - and just tried it "out of the box" with the U205 when I got it home, and was really impressed. Refer to Geoff, (Walpurgis) about the arm.

I would need to let JP (my helicopter buddy) have first refusal, and I am head-down for tax return season at the moment, so not too disappointed he keeps getting hauled off to the middle east on business, but let me know if its of interest.

Systemdek was better in the bass although by then 'we' had optimised our systems around the boingy old fruitbox LP12 (as it was back in the early to mid 80's). The 774 was an inspiration on it too and all of a sudden, cartridge choice didn't seem critical any more - I've NEVER heard a humble AT95e sound as good as it does in a 774 for some reason.

Sorry these are not works of art. Too much stuff happening right now. I think they are good enough for purpose. The first shows what it looks like. I struggled to see the marks, and that is what this picture represents

http://i1315.photobucket.com/albums/t582/oldpinkman/DSC_0004_zps574d919b.jpg (http://s1315.photobucket.com/user/oldpinkman/media/DSC_0004_zps574d919b.jpg.html)

It is really just an issue with nextel which never stays pristine and always looks "wet" in places. This photo deliberately bleaches to show where the marks are, and is grotesquely unrealistic - but you get the idea

A couple of close ups of the arm

The wire tag is to hold the arm still in transit since the 774 has no arm rest facility. The turntable was used for 20 months from new and then stored. I picked it up from the house which had owned it from new, and it was one of those "never finished" self builds, and so I have no problem believing the "stored in a wardrobe" story. For all my descriptions of its cosmetic defects your first impression is "brand new".

I'll try to chase up JP this weekend, but I am badly behind with work, and my mum was rushed to hospital yesterday, so this was really a February project for me. But didn't want to miss the moment!

That's the rather horrible (for sprung decks) exit cable, but it's easily changed if you can fine-solder. The paddle fitted is best replaced with the smallest if that can be located and the tip should, in my opinion and experience, just brush the surface of the damping fluid, rather than fully immerse itself :)

I prefer the arm with no damping, hate arm cable dressing, and wouldn't use the additional counter weight ring for the u205, but I played it "as is" out of the box ( no fluid in trough!) & it was ok. Much better than ok actually. Really good. Change the glued on felt mat for an achromat (well not felt) and you have one helluva turntable if you don't regularly flit between 45s and 33s. An astonishing find :)
