Hi there everyone, i was invited to join the forum by synsei after building a pre for him. Abit of info on me, I mostly build my own kit, i havent bought anything since 2011 to be honest. My system consists of a jbe slate turntable and origin live arm with ortofon sl15 mc.
Phono stage is a nuvistor based design of mine that is poorly at the moment so an xlps is standing in.
Digital is by a bog stock squeezebox classic that i wont be changing simply because i can actually see the display from across the room ( couldnt see the screen of the sb touch so it went back to its owner). Cd is a sony cdp xb930 qs that is perfectly adequate. My amp is again my own design, an se el34 driven by ecc88s configured as a cascode. Speakers are a pair of metronome bipoles using chp70 drivers and audax tweeters.
To be honest it doesnt get used as much as id like, young kids, wife and work all conspire to get in the way, but im sure everyone goes through the same at some point.

In short, anything. I have no preferences. Consequently, you wouldnt believe some of the crap i have in my music collection. I like to buy random cds by going on ebay, choosing a random category and buying the first cd that is on 99p and finishes within a few minutes. Ive picked up some stuff i love, some stuff i hate, but its all fun

Hi Anthony. The JBE and Origin Live must be a nice source for your phono stage and system. Can you use nuvistors in classic valve circuits or do they require different topologies?

It works for me, the good ends up being investigated further and goes onto the squeezebox, the bad gathers dust in a cupboard somewhere. Then i get told off for cluttering up another cupboard....... Re the nuvistors, as with any other valve its all in the datasheet. Its not really possible to sub them into anything that wasnt designed for them without altering the circuit to suit, but topology wise they arent any different to other valves if the datasheet is looked at thoroughly and the specs arent exceeded. You can do pretty much the same with them as you can with other valves of similar characteristics

Hi martin, the jbe is my pride and joy. Ive had god knows how many decks over the years and built as many more. It has survived many purges and will not be let go of. Infact, the only other deck ive had that i wish i still had was a yamaha pf800. I must have been mad to sell it. My garrards, lp12, and all the others i moved on all had some failing or quirk that did my head in at some point, but the jbe hasnt and neither did the yamaha. Its a lovely deck
