The FB page has been a fun way to put up images of equipment we have (or previously had) in the collection. It seemed a shame to have a file on the desktop with lots of images of interesting bits and bobs. Interspersed with the archive shots are 'Heritage' images which for us at least is an important and fascinating factor in our passion for authentic vintage hifi. The odd record gets a look in along with anything else that fits with our ethos. How do you think the new SME M-12 compares with the original Series I SME 3012? Both of which are shown in the photo.

Hi Barry, very difficult to offer much in terms of insight here. Sadly the M-12 is Bob C's so I only heard it in the context of the room at Scalford with Simon Mears Speakers.

While the restoration of 301's has to admired and looks of the highest quality, the styling of the plinth is not sypathetic with the turntable and does nothing for me. buy a 301 and plonk it on top of a butchers block and you pretty much have it.

Of course the plinth aesthetics are subjective however, this butchers block hides a few secrets... In truth it is rather more advanced than any other commercially available 301 plinth...To name a few reasons:

Internally there are two separate inert (bentonite impregnated bespoke molded resin platforms.) The larger section has a captivated metal frame which enables the 301 motor to be completely detached from the chassis. This knocks out a vast amount of vibration which is normally transmitted into the chassis and in turn the spindle / platter and of course then the cartridge. The second resin panel anchors the unique arm pod allowing the arm to be affixed from the underside and into the inert resin to protect it from stray motor vibrations of the top plate. The spindle housing is also supported from the underside to ensure the chassis does not flex.

Mmmm! SME 3012 Mk. I with retrofitted Crabbe anti-skating bias and an SME M2-12R.
There must be something about stainless steel arm tubes you like.
Mass is what I tend to prefer directed buy L.C cartridges
Me too… In my experience, it’s the best recipe for achieving genuine bass weight and authority with vinyl replay, and also maximising the addictive tonal and timbral qualities of vintage LC MC cartridges :)

I will most definitely do that. I suspect that you and I have similar tastes. I’d also love to hear one of your refurbished 301s (and see up close what the ‘Hammertone’ and 'Black Pearl’ finishes looks like) :)

Although I can appreciate the superb machinery and engineering in your pics, I have also noted a superb Album by the Human League before they made it big. One of their best in my opinion. :)

Nearly x4 years ago I posted a link to our Pinterest site, I appreciate Pinterest isn't for a lot of folks here nevertheless over time (Can't quite believe it's been x4 years) a fair bit of the more interesting British kit that has come though (& Often remaining) has found it's way up there. Nothing is for sale it's just for fun and perhaps reference?
The boards included are, surprise surprise: Garrard 301's, 40l's, Tonearms & Carts, British Vintage and Tannoy. Quite a few of these pics don't show up on Google...
