FS: Beresford TC-7520SE "Caiman" DAC - £120 exc. P&P

Beresford 7520SE "Caiman" DAC in full working order. Comes in what I believe is the original packaging, with original instructions and PSU. Also included is a pair of phono leads.

I purchased this second-hand in September 2011 and it has been kept in a pet- and smoke-free household since. It is in excellent condition. See photos.

Full disclosure: this is one of the few models where the muting relays emit a single, moderately audible "tick" at the beginning of periods of silence, eg. between tracks on a CD. Search the AoS forums for some discussion of this. This is something that in no way affects the sound quality of the device, which is excellent for the price.

This is a very accomplished and well-reviewed DAC. Only selling because I've decided to down-size my hi-fi system.

£120 excluding P&P. Payment by direct bank transfer only. Delivery will be by the cheapest signed-for service I can find that also offers the appropriate level of insurance, or you can collect, or have it collected by your own courier service.

I used to use this DAC with my Mac running the EyeTV software, which allows reception and playback of Freeview TV signals in the UK. For some reason, the very brief silences between adverts would cause the muting relays to click continuously until the next advert began - so, for about a second or less. It's possible it could be the same with your Sky TV playback, but I couldn't say for sure. It may have had something to do with how my Mac sent digital audio signals to the DAC, or how Freeview broadcasts silences. I should say, though, that the "ticks" were never evident during the transmission of the programs themselves, just during the gaps between adverts.

As for Blu-Ray playback: the only time I suspect you may hear the "tick" when watching a Blu-Ray is during the gaps between all the the pre-movie messages, warnings, adverts and associated other guff that are on the disc prior to actually starting the movie. Once the movie begins, though, no silences will be sent to the DAC because audio will be continuously playing and so no "ticks" will be produced.

I'd like to say that the "tick" isn't loud at all. But I used to listen in close proximity to the DAC in a very quiet house, so the "ticks" were always evident to me. I'm also a bit of a perfectionist/idealist, so they probably irritated me more than they should. You may find that you don't mind them at all, and come to ignore them completely after a short while.

Hi mate, your price may be a little high. I had the very same dac and paid what you're asking for as new. Just to give you a heads up is all.

I can confirm this dac is very very good and punches above it's weight.

Well, I've had no reply from Gmanuk101 after almost a week, where I asked him for more information regarding his claim that this DAC was sold as-new for £120. As I pointed out to him, this was £220 new according to this What HiFi review (http://www.whathifi.com/review/caiman), and prices on eBay when I last checked varied between £85 and £135. So, my original price point seemed fine.

This is a very fine DAC with a minor flaw - £100 seems a very fair price.

yes you did send me a message saying "are you sure I paid that amount for it" - the answer was "yes of course I'm sure" not sure how I wouldn't be sure on the price I paid money for, quite a puzzling question.. I am positive there are people out there who may forget prices from time to time though

£100 seems like VFM to me, I'd be tempted if I hadn't just bought on from eBay, excellent DAC.
