hi all , i have aquired this little gem with a bulk purchase , i was told it was dead, and it was, but the patch lead between the power supply and preamp had a wire come adrift inside of the plug , (the first thing i checked:) , anyway i am going to be selling it but i dont have any info on it and dont know what its value is , i havent yet run anything through it but i shall be doing so very soon , i was told that it had new valves a few years ago as this was what the owner thought might be wrong with it , (check the obvious first ) , so i am trying to ascertain its value , does anyone know???

Er, not quite dual mono; dual pot and one PSU. But I am a fan of Doug's amps. I have a clone in the loft, changed the PSU to valve and never got it right, must have another go at it sometime.
He never seemed to make 2 the same, always fiddling, but they sound good to me.

It looks like a prototype version of the Exhultant pre amp ?I knew the designer Doug Dunlop , he had a range of pre's and this is the base model I think.

i have now tested it with aux sources and they work fine , at present have supertramp on the gyrodec running through the phono stage:) , the bass is incredible and much more natural sounding than cd , i am almost tempted to visit the shed:eek:spiders,,, to bring in some more vinyl.

it does say on the front panel that it is dual mono:scratch:

As I remember it, the prices for Doug's pre's were...

Exquisite 1700

Excelsior 856

Exhilarant 675

Exhultant 575

From about 1991 ish?

Prices kept changing - at one point the Exquisite was £2300 (think I got that from an old Hifi News).

I also spoke to a bloke once when I put mine up for sale many years ago, called me about the ad. Said he'd been Doug's business partner later on and re-marketed them and prices went higher (perhaps that's when the £2300 came about). Remember seeing the odd one on ebay with angular corners from this late era - think Concordant tried to carry on after Doug's death.
