Typing this with a slight hangover on new years day so bear with me, I did post er... a post on the knowledge about my egg speakers and was told i should say hello first so hear goes. I have a very eclectic music collection and i am an ex audiophile purist. i.e. i have all my music on mp3, wav or even the outstanding DTS audio via the pc and yes i have had my hearing tested recently and its perfect.
Used to have Arcam, Nad etc and to be honest if you know your bitrates there is no real difference. I have recently discovered DTS audio and its blown my mind, The depth is outstanding and i hate to say it but in my opinion blows stereo clean out of the water. 6 dedicated channels adds real presence. I am not on about just pressing the DD/ DTS button on the amp but playing Blue ray audio via the optical/ digital out on the pc. That said it can sound a bit harsh on the top end when you really give it the berries but that is at volumes that would get my equipment confiscated by the asbo police.
I have a paradigm 1000 sub, big big base but not so tight.
Ancient sherwood RDS 6095 AV Reciever soon to be replaced with HDMI reciever so i can get DTS master audio etc

Monitor Audio 821c in the middle
and the strangest pair of eggs at the front that i have no clue about other than they sound spectacular, Vifa drivers all round so cant complain. Recently replaced my sony bravia rear projector for a nice 50" plasma and they really are better than equally priced LCD's as i sent that back while i still could, blocky as hell...
Well today i have been listening to a Q8(quadraphonic) version of dark side of the moon, a 5.1 version of Pet sounds)beach boys) and Thriller... my god the stereo sound effects from the rear are quite something. oh and Jean michele Jarre Aero in DTS, the sound not only goes left to right but back to front and even in circles around the room... having a separate sub woofer channel really does give some oomph and depth, i dont think i can listen to plain old stereo again. They are quite large files though 1gb to 2.8 gb compared to a CD at 700mb so could fill up the hard drive quite quickly
now that i have annoyed the purists i shall get my coat...lol
