Which earphones ?

Looking to buy some earphones but cant decide on which ones... Budget is £30.

I used to have some Sennheiser CX300 which weren't bad but the Sony XBA1 are tempting me... Any one familiar with them ? They use "Balanced Armature" apparently :eyebrows:

The CX300s = too much bass & muddy.

At a £30 budget, I'd be looking at some (over-ear) Koss Porta Pro, which are amazing and don't leak much sound.

If you really want in-ears, then look at Denon's range. :)

I like the over the ear design, lots of different sized rubbery bits are provided so you can choose some to get a really good fit.

There might be better available but for around £30 these are great.

My aural memory doesn't stretch back far enough but yes I do recall the Senns were a bit bass heavy. George kindly offered me some Koss but I cant stand the over ear design [I know I'm my own worst enemy :(]

Not been particularly impressed with Denon's headphone offerings... All the one's I've sampled have sounded like generic cheap earphones but maybe they've come on a bit since being introduced ?

James, I have a new pair of Aiwa HP V-151s that I bought as spares. I got a pair last year from an American seller and the carriage was more than the phones themselves. I was really impressed with them (for the money) and got a second set and a pair for my sister. I raved about them on a "Bargain Alert" thread. There's a Hamburg seller has them for £25 an a US one for $25 which includes postage. Had a load of Sony ones and these are the best. Use them with my Motorola Atrix 4 mobile and Archos 48 media player and the sound quality is just insane - especially listening to videos (Chris Rea Soft Top Hard Soulder and Michael McDonald What A Fool Believes using the MX Player App on my Atrix)

I have two pairs of SoundMAGIC in-earphones E10 and E30. Very pleased with them and very good value. I have gone through a lot of these over the years and I used to have Sennhieser MX something, they broke. I also had some Ultimate Ears that cost me £115.00 and were treated with the utmost care, they now have a loose connection in the left channel and I really did look after them and hardly used them because of their cost - a bit like your best wine glasses! The SoundMAGIC's are really abused and I use the E10 every single week day to walk to and from work and they get stuffed in a pocket when not in use. The cable is great, its quite slick in texture and does not tangle easily, but if it does, it untangles with ease due to its slippery surface finish. If they ever let me down, I'll be buying some more and I have tried a lot of earphones ;)

Of the two I think I prefer the E10, these are great in use with a tablet PC whilst watching movies on Netflix or the iPlayer and go well with the tiny SanDisk Sansa Clip+ player after tweaking the EQ settings.

Was looking to replace my Sennheiser 300 in ears which broke on one channel, took a punt on E30's reading good things about them online/

Thanks for the offer Stephen, that's very kind but I dunno if I've got funny shaped lug hole's or what but I tend to need the in ear jobbies as the traditional one's just fall out :(

Thanks guys. I was all set to go for the SoundMagics but had an unfortunate event [family bereavement] that took precedence so I just went for the Sony's I linked in the OP.

Overall: they are a little bass light but what is there is very nice... Probably the best in ear 'phones I've heard for vocals [but I haven't heard many!]

For £20 delivered they are definitely a better buy than Senn CX300 unless your a bass head.
