'Travelling Days'. By the JSD Band.
Is this first LP played or purchased?
Re-entering the land of vinyl -- when my Technics came in earlier this week, first LP I played was New Dimensions by The Three Degrees. Discotastic (even as old and frayed around the edges as it is) with fantastic Giorgio Moroder production.
As for first purchase - I've won an auction on a sealed copy of Peter Gabriel's Passion on eBay. A friend loaned me the (awesome) SACD but copies of that seem to be changing hands for megabuck$$$.

From the thread title, I was assuming it was the first 2014 release bought
In which case, it would be

Convergence - Malia and Boris Blank
Collaboration between Malawi-born jazz singer Malia and Yello main-man Boris Blank. All music composed by (other than a cover of 'Fever'), played by and produced by Boris Blank. Only played it a couple of times, but I like Malia's voice and the production and sound is first-class. The music feels a bit 'safe' and samey, but it's starting to grow on me and after a few more plays, I may well rate this much higher.
However, the first vinyl I bought this year regardless of release date was:

Deutsche Elektonische Musik Volumes 1 & 2 - Various Artists
Superb four double-LP Krautrock compilation - an essential purchase for anyone with the slightest interest in the genré
