Why do members advertise items for sale on ALL forums at the same time ?

It would be better in my opinion to give it a day on one first then move to another if not sold

I have seen this happen several times recently and it has happened to me in the past

You get all excited and confirm you will buy the item only to be sold its been sold elsewhere :(

Anyone who does this should be considered a Cad and a Bounder. No doubt individuals will give their reasons for doing so.

Usually because they want or need to sell it :rolleyes: Quite often one will offer to buy something on the condition they have to sell something first to help fund the purchase so there is an element of necessity... They cant be messing around one forum on Monday, another forum on Wednesday etc etc... Anyways, if you wanted rid of say a sofa for example would you honestly advertise it on Tesco's noticeboard & wait a day before going to Sainsbury's to advertise it there !? If you want rid of something you have to proactively advertise everywhere, buyers don't come to you these days [well they do but you'll be waiting months.]

I do it & see no problem with it but will say... If I'm going to sell something at a giveaway price I'll offer it up on AOS *first* ;)

its very difficult to sell stuff and only by very wide exposure can you sell stuff to a very limited market

What is the difference if they say they've sold it to someone else on the SAME forum or to someone on a different forum?

OK . I got to a shop to buy an item advertised only to be told its sold in a different shop :scratch:

If there is only one item - a shop comparison doesn't work. How many shops do you know that have multiple branches but which only stock one item between them? LoL..

A like for like comparison would be: there are different walk-in stores around town but they only sell stock from their one warehouse. When you go in to the shop and inquire you find it is sold out, out of stock. A bathroom showroom perhaps - they sell from a warehouse and the shop front is just a display room, they order in the product from the warehouse.

Anyway, you have to understand that these are private adverts. People aren't shops.

Before the internet, if you had an item for sale you might advertise in the local paper, advertise in Loot, advertise with a card in the local shop each asking people to call the number to inquire about it's availability. Would have you have been miffed in the past if you'd seen the advert in Loot only to find the item had sold already and to someone who'd seen the advert instead in the shop window?

And not miffed that you'd got there too late, but the fact they'd advertised in more than one place?? How would you know that anyway and in this case the seller needn't have mentioned anything either..

The dealers on here and all the forums advertise on as many places as possible too and when an item is gone, it's gone!

Sounds like you are demanding loyalty to this forum and it's other users, like a test of friendship? Or you want to be consulted about every sale so that you don't go through bad feelings of having missed a particular bargain?

I have purchased from you in the past , does this mean I was just lucky to get the item and you have no AOS loyalty ? surly when selling 24 hours on one forum is no hardship , maybe it is if you are in need of £10 or £20

It is different if the item you are selling is worth £1000's and will be difficult to sell , but small value items is it worth the hassle advertising a record on 4 web sites Aos / WW / Pink fish / Lenco heaven etc ?

Lastly I do not want first dibbs on anything , how you arrived at that is mystifying :scratch:
