I took delivery today of a delightful pair of ART Skibo speakers which I purchased from Dan (Ledzep) of this parish. There are an array of speaker posts to the rear of these speakers, as can be seen in the pic below:

Please note the extra positive post. Dan has informed me that inserting the positive leads here enables the user to apply some treble lift to the output, except that I am struggling to understand how this would work as all three posts are linked via the bar attached to the fly leads from the bass bins which in turn is secured to all three of the positive posts. Presumably the middle post channels the input to a separate section on the crossover where the treble lift is applied, but how is this possible with all three terminals in circuit?

IIRC Frank [effem] had a pair years back... Could be worth a PM ?

A Google search revealed this: "if for single wiring (recommended) then connect speaker cable to bass unit plugs, connect flying leads from bass jumpers through bare wire holes in monitor posts, for normal amps, only use normal 4 binding posts, if your amp is valve or seems rolled of in treble, use the extra 5th binding posts (move flying lead bar further up to connect with extra post) this will add a 2db lift to top end (designed for valve amps with rolled off treble.)"

Okay I am confused. I am looking for some lift to the treble so what do I do, move the positive bar down so it is only connecting with the middle and lower posts?

From both the quote I posted & your description I think you already have the optional treble lift. It would appear you connect only the lower 2 positive posts on the monitors for flat response or link all 3 for the 2dB boost.

Ah thanks James, sorted now ;)

Well, that's different.

They do look smart though Dave.

That's correct.

You already have the additional treble lift in circuit Dave. Could be that a reduction in value for any damping using L-Pad resistors would be needed if you wanted any more treble left. If you can get to the crossovers and photo the components, you're looking for some resistors in the treble section, one in series and one in shunt (if that's how they've designed them). I can supply the resistor values to change to for a specified increase depending on tweeter specifications of course.

Thanks Paul but I am going to live with them for a while before doing anything drastic. It's true that the Skibo's are not as sparkly at the top end compared to my DM2's however it isn't a huge difference and I may well get used to this character trait after a while. The Skibo's are very revealing of poorly recorded music whereas the DM2's tend to flatter in this respect. which may become an issue for me eventually, time will tell ;)

Crikey James you have some memory there boy

Yes I did have a pair of Skibos . . . . . must have been around 2005 I had them.

I remember deviating from the wiring arrangement recommended by Art, who said the input from the amp should go to the bass unit with a fly lead up to the monitor terminals, but I went from the amp to the monitor first, then down to the bass cabinet because it sounded better to my ears. Still have the sketch too:

11243

I made a special "bar" of heavy gauge silver wire to go across the monitor terminals and 6mm copper wire down to the bass cabinet, which I found to be an improvement over the supplied bars and cables

To be fair the first search result for "Art Skibo" was this one (http://www.hifiwigwam.com/showthread.php?647-ART-skibo) which jogged my memory somewhat :D

Ahh the good old days when men were men & forums were forums :wheniwasaboy:

I take back undeserved the praise I heaped upon you for your extraordinary memory prowess James. Google indeed :ner:

Yes I remember that thread well and also the confloptions whenever the word "ART" was mentioned. Interesting too that someone else had also decided that the "wrong" way to wire the Skibos up produced a better sound, as it was the wire and nothing else that was the variable

Well to quote Linn [I think!?] "If it sounds better it is better." :exactly:

I owned a pair of Art Stiletto 6 which I found to be really rather poor & also heard Emotions which I didn't like. Both experiences really put me off the brand but there are many happy owners out there so as always its down to the individual room/system/ears/brain.
