Stock PSU Mechanical hum..

Right. Just got a 1210 recently. However, it has a huge mechanical hum. Putting the needle on the deck it pick up massive amounts of it.
I just compared it to an another deck i have on service. And that has barely any at all.
When i lift the PSU from its mount (while wearing headphones) it almost disappears.
But as it is, i don´t even have to put my ear to it. In a quiet room you can hear it hum just standing looking at it.
Is this PSU pretty much shot. Should i even bother making it external considering this hum it make might creep up to the deck anyways?

Try this:

First, make sure your TT ground is properly connected. If it is, try moving the ground cable to another ground connection. Then if there is still hum, proceed to the following steps:

1. If you have an Ohm meter, check the ground cable to the tonearm for continuity.

2. Remove power from the turntable, do you still hear hum?

3. Put the needle to the record, any hum?

This will help determine if this is really a power supply issue, or if the ground cable needs to be fixed.

If it is indeed the transformer that is humming (assuming you have investigated and exhausted all other possible sources of the noise), it'll save you time and frustration to get an external PSU and be done with it. If this was the output transformer on a delicious sounding vintage valve power amp, then I might consider putting up the cash to have it rewound and otherwise serviced. For an inexpensive power transformer... not a chance.

How much for the PSU Cablemaker? Im on 220 voltage here in Norway.
Assuming it is stock PSU and has the 110/220 switch.
Never built a external myself as it is my first mod project.

Im going to test the tonearm once i got it fixed with new PCB. Had to "borrow it" to another deck.

Found somewhere information that in 2009 Technics changed the transformer to one that produces more hum. Lately I bought a 1210 too. Mine hums alot too but for now main suspcet is my pre. Definitly planing psu mod and moving transformer out of chasis. But for start I will dumpen transformer mount with rubber or silicone pads just for fun, to checkt what it is worth.

The PSU is already dampened far as i know. Will help little to dampen it more. I tried..
