Occasionally I miss this shop. Years ago there was a nice one based in West Ealing I used to go too!! Loved their CD section & their famous ''pic in mix'' sweet section.

Anyone else here still misses woolies? :)

In the States we had them back in the 70s kind of like a drug store with a soda fountain where you could get milk shakes. They sold pets as well

Amazon for the pre internet age.

We used to buy almost anything there. For me it was Airfix kits which got me into putting stuff together. I used to throw the instructions away as it was much more fun figuring out how it all went together. I still want to know!!

Our local Woolies had a very good music department with staff who actually knew their stuff, I miss that... :(

Woolworth's sold a brilliant range of paints in the '70s. Equally as good as Crown paint. Someone once told me Crown made it for Woolworth's. Who knows...

Ditto. You could also buy 'Embassy' records, which were anonymous cover versions of hit records, some featuring artists who later became famous (eg Elton John).

Salted peanuts under a hot lamp. broken biscuits, slab cake and wooden floors. Yes, I'm an olden, and even if they were a pale shadow of the glory days before they finally folded, the high street without Woolies just ain't the same.

Miss Woolies in Hunstanton. It was our destination of choice on miserable afternoon's during the winter months to raid the pick & mix and buy a cheap DVD, cd or ps2 game.

My friend in Oz visits Woolies every week it's a supermarket there and going strong, not sure if it's the same company, a spin off or they bought the name in order to suck the poms in.

I knew the Hunstanton branch well Claire as I lived just down the road in Heacham for a few years and used it on a regular basis, a cracking little branch and its loss is much mourned by the locals. Even if the company hadn't folded I am not sure the store would have survived the opening of the Tesco superstore on Southend Road though. I've not visited Hunny for a while and I hear there is now a Sainsbury's in town too...
