Anyone who can help set up a Kuzma Stabi S/Stogi S 12'"/Ortofon MC Cadenza please?

I have treated myself to a 50th birthday present but now need to put it together. I was never very handy but now my eyesight's also not what it used to be and I would rather ensure it is done properly than bodged:eek:.

I would be very grateful to anybody based in London who could help me set up this turntable. I'm in NW3. I would, of course, be happy to pay for time and petrol as well as to offer as many cups of tea and biscuits as required...

For those who are interested, I will be putting the signal through a Whest PS.30RDT into a Naimnet amp to Sonus Faber Grand Piano floor standers. Also in the system are a Naimnet DAB tuner and a Naimnet music server, a WT The Turntable with DV-10x5 into a DV P75 Mk III, and a Xindak SCD2.

As I live in NW9 it won't be a problem coming to sort it out for you. While I'm experienced at setting up arms and cartridge's. I have set up many turntables in my working life but actually have no experience with your Kuzma but I'm sure that should not be an issue. I have all the tools, protractors and scales.
I just need somewhere to park and sadly don't drink tea but if coffee is available that will do fine.
I don't require any payment and petrol is no good to me (the car gets up-set if I put that sort of go-go juice in).
I'll PM you if your happy for me to help.

I have now got the plain S12. Will post pics when set up.

Peter, a friend of mine owns exactly the combo you have purchased. Unfortunately, he does not live anywhere near London. I'm sure he would be happy to provide you with 'on line' advice though, should you need any. The truth is it's really an exceedingly easy deck to set up.

Enjoy it! Stabi S is very easy to set up. I found unipivot Stogi S a bit more difficult though I only have experience with 9" it needs a bit of patience especially when you set azimuth.

One advice: once you set the arm, you should experiment a bit with silicone oil dumping. I (and some other Stogi users) found that too much silicone kills the energy and darkens the sound. According the most, it seems that an optimal amount is less than a half of the bath so the bell-like part of the arm is immersed in oil for not more than 1-2mm. You can always take the excess oil out but it's easier not to overfill. If you like it sharper and more transient, you can use it with no oil, though Franz Kuzma advocates it for killing all the resonances coming all the way from the stylus. It also depends on your cartridge but I can't help with Cadenza.

I thought I should report back on the speed of resolution of my problem.

Clive contacted me yesterday to offer his help. He then arrived at 2pm today and by 5 pm he had set up the TT to perfection. It sounds delightful and I have lost no time in annoying the neighbours with Tracy Chapman and Supertramp among others. The whole rig is a revelation and I am delighted.

Although I have written to him privately to thank him, I thought I should say here that there should be a special kudos place on the forum for members, such as Clive, who go out of their way to help others and share their considerable expertise. :clapclapclap: He refused all offers of recompense, including for fuel. I will make a donation to a charity instead.

I have a Power Inspired Power Regenerator AG 1500 which I bought from Reffc a while ago - it provides a clean 240v ac at all times. Would there be a problem feeding the Kuzma from that rather than buying a new PSU? If it does, it would also give me the means to clean up the supply for my WTT Record Player...

Any thoughts? Am I missing something?

The Ag1500 will be a good start for a decent 50hz waveform, which is what you need.

You could use any of the following.
Hercules2/Mose low cost, switchable speed psu available as either a pcb only or a fully boxed unit.
Naim Armageddon, a big old transformer in a box which regulates the AC, you'll need to continue using the 45rpm adaptor for this. I still have one of these.
Linn Valhalla, single speed psu. (The Hercules is based on this)
Heed Orbit 1/2
and there's many other diy options available as well as the Kuzma options.

|Both the older Kuzma PSU and the newer digital display unit are both excellent, if somewhat overpriced IMO. But then I build my own.

IMHO there is no need experiment here, kuzma PSU is no brainer.

however, it's really not that important to get a supreme performance from this arm/deck combination. i would say it's an icing on the cake but the cake is anyway fantastic.

The AG1500 provides a steady 230V and 50Hz. If you have not plugged in your turntable(s) (and CD player) you are definitely missing something. I would do this first before trying an external PSU.

Gordan, are you referring to the AG1500 overheating when used with the Kuzma t/t? This sounds unusual. Are there any specific reasons why this might be the case?

No, Heed Orbit TT PSU (that was recommended in this thread).
