I was lucky to get these for £346.

They are a mint pair of Kef 105 mk1, 12in bass drivers that really go low with control and energy. Similar to Ian's Naim Dbl's from what I used to remember.
Great fun
But it's not just the bass, the mid and top has so much air and detail. Pinpoint imagery and depth to the sound stage.
They are probably the best speakers I've owned up till now.

Very nice Kef Daleks Duncan, I was told some time ago by a owner that you need to turn the bass units once in a while or they go out of shape due to their weight and start rubbing

Nice Speakers. Only issue was the foam surrounds on the bass drivers / possible re-foam, other than that, very nice ! :)

Yes I had heard that one, I plan on giving these a full service and maybe a recap.
I'll measure some of the old capacitors to see if they have drifted much.

Some pictures of the Kef 105 undergoing a service.


Kef appear to have used a 105.2 Mark 1 board for the MF/HF sections, and a 105.1 board for the bass section. Entirely consistent with these 105.1's being amongst the last made of that version they
probably had a few left to make and had run out of 105.1 boards, and not worth ordering more.

Most of the original caps were out of spec, some by a far bit.
After talking to Jerry Bloomfield at Falcon Acoustics.
I decided on Solen Polypropylene Capacitors for the treble section and ALCAP 100V Low Loss
electrolytic capacitors for the rest, batch selected for 2% tolerance.


The foam used on top of the bass cabinets had long gone so I've used some Acoustic Foam Room
Treatment Egg Crate 15" tiles. Looks ok and probably does the same job that the Kef's original did,
that of absorbing reflections from the bass enclosure's top surface.

They sound much better and good for another 35 years of enjoyment.
