just bought a tp link mobile broadband router. put a3 mobile 3 gig card in and , boy does it rip....getting 11.5 mb instead of sky's 3.1mb using wired ....
TBH it was a test and if it continues to do well the house phone and sky broadband will be history.

anyone else using mifi???

Have done and it was excellent, faster than ADSL broadband and very reliable, had the advantage that you could take the mifi box with you and set up your own hot spot when you were visiting a friend or relative who didn't have broadband, the only limitation was that at the time I was unable to buy an unlimited data package either on contract or payg, as my data requirements grew I moved to the murky world of fibre which touch wood has been ok

have sent away for a free mobidata sim but not sure if they are any good...anyone used them?

BT Infinity put paid to broadband at home (I get 70Mbps) and I use my O2 phone in bluetooth tethered mode with my tablet when on the move, which works very well. I have 1GB per month which seems to have been enough so far, although I don't do things like download apps with it.

A friend uses a mi-fi unit with 3 contract and seems very happy with it.

I dont get fibre out in the sticks...barely get asdl tbh....3.2mb at best....been using a 3 mobile sim in it but just found that it rates the wigwam forum as porn and wont let me on...dont know whether to laugh or cry....

You should be able to ask for filtering to be disabled. I did with O2 and that allows me to access almost anything. They use a credit card number to verify your age.

I have done it I think but it takes 24 hrs minimum......it is only the classifieds that seem to be affected....I suppose pictures of sexy equipment was too much for them:lol:

working ok so far apart from that, but will give this other company a go mobidata...certainly cheaper and I think they are piggybacked on to 3 mobile as well.

I'm using a 4G Alcatel OneTouch via EE for when I'm out and about - 20mbps in Colchester, Romford and London offices - 8gb data per month, £16 on a rolling 30 day contract, device was £29.99 up front - absolutely brilliant - as long as you are in a 4G area, although 3G still gives me better than broadband at home! Personal wifi hotspots will be a massive growth area next year IMHO - if like me you carry several devices and want seamless connectivity whether at home or on the road they are a godsend. :)

thats a good price for 4 g Alex......not sure it is available yet but wont be long I guess...dont think my equ is 4g compliant...3g at these speeds is enough for me..a big boon from 3 mb.

does anyone know what the adding of an sd memory card is for and how you use it, and why????
I have one in and it shows up on the laptop when connected but no idea what I can do with it.

You can store things on the memory card such as photos or word documents etc so you have them with you and will probably be accessible by any of your devices that has the wifi password.
