I'm so chuffed with my restoration of my Garrard 301 I thought I'd start a new thread

The 301 started life as a garage find. It had no sub chasis and hadn't been started up in 3 years. It originally came with a Shure cartridge and a SME 3009

After a complete strip down and some attention from NWA I made a temporary plinth. I upgraded the SME 3009 to a 3012 and made a simple platter mat.

Then after a little bit more messing around the cartridge got updated to a Koetsu black, the plinth went from being a kitchen top offcut to a nice piano gloss 90mm birchply jobby especially designed to fit a 3012. Mains lead got upgraded from a bit of bird wire to something shielded lightweight and flexible.

What next?

Just a few simple thing. Get cartridge alignment sorted and some decent spikes for the plinth, then enjoy the fruits of my labours.

Very nice Andrew, a thing of beauty

Thanks guys. The 301 sounds excellent its not quite as food as the 1210 in some departments mainly bass but overall I'm very happy with it. Certain genres of music sound better than others, for example classical sounds wonderful whilst heavy metal (black sabbath ) sounds pants (that's the 1210s job)!

Very nice Andrew.
