Well I've done it now. Most of my life I've had dogs, it's only recently that I haven't had one. But been thinking about getting one more and more recently.

Well after looking at re-homing dogs from the Guide Dog Association, there are very few younger dogs ever available, and the older dogs are over 10 years old nothing coming up soon either. Having had a talk with the person involved with re-homing dogs I decided to let that one pass.

As of today I am the proud owner of a lovely Black Lab called Faye.
I got her from a local breeder and boarding kennel owner who rescued her from a previous owner who had badly beaten her and treated her poorly. The breeder got her back on her feet, but it was time to re-home her.

Dropped by earlier today and now have her at home. What a lovely natured dog she is, surprisingly not timid and plenty of spirit. Though she is extreamly frightened of the word 'NO' I presume earlier in her life it is associated with a beating, so will have to be careful of that words use.

Anyway, it's great to have her and give her a nice home and life once more.

And so say all of us !! How could anyone mistreat such an animal, (or indeed any animal for that matter !!). If I had my way I'd hang them by the balls from a very high rusty nail.
Good luck with her. I used to have a black Lab when I was a kid - cried my heart out when she left us. Since settled on cats as both of us worked and didn't want to leave a dog alone all day - they need company - cats manage much better on their own.
Enjoy !

Next time you're round here, Andy, bring her up, she can play with Ginny in the garden. Does she like ponds? :lolsign:

Ginny... the most useless 'guard dog' in the whole world. She'd greet anyone to death!

Hi Guys

Cheers for your comments. She really is a lovely dog. The poor breeder was in floods of tears as we left for home.

I think I too would like to treat the previous owner in the same way he treated Faye.

Mike I'll be sure to drop by sometime and bring Faye along, done know about the water yet, though she doesn't seen frightened of anything so far. She gets on with dogs and kids fine too.

She has a good loving friendly home now and it will stay that way too, spoilt rotten she will be

We'll get along fine, so long as she does nick the 'sweet spot' for the music sessions, maybe I could train her to change records

After Faye's first night away from the other dogs where she was, all I can say is I didn't think she would settle as easliy as she has.

When left last night she didn't bark or whine at all, a nice enthusiastic greating this morning. Not mess or problems. Going to get myself sorted and take her out for a walk. I may even loose some weight myself with the extra exercise I will be getting.

I'm a more of a "pussy" person myself ;) but my better half is a dog lover and had dog's at home when growing up. I love all of them really and all I can say is that anyone who abuses such wonderful friends needs serious help.

After losing my little Ollie puss last year, my wife has declared this house a pet free zone and I'm heartbroken. Next-door's cat comes in most days for a fuss and this keeps me going, but I can't wait for the day when we have another little friend to live with us - dog or cat, I don't mind.....

Hi Hamish

Lovely looking dog you have there, how old is she now?

Faye has only had the rope pull since yesterday and she has started to pull it to bits already, carries it nearly everywhere. Including trying to drop the thing into my morning coffee.

Not long returned from a good 4 mile walk, and she still wants more. Just had a mad 10 minutes in the garden, though she is now flat out and having a good kip. Getting rested for another walk later.

Really enjoying having a dog about again, even though she's only been here just over 24 hours.

Hi Dave

It's a shame when at times in your life you arn't able to have a pet (whatever type it is). They really add to a homes atmosphere (regardless of smell).

I'd be fairly sure the sight of a helpless pup or kitten will reduce your other half to a soft sole and allow one back into the home.

Here's hoping

piglet is now just under a year old, she has just had her first season... great fun! dog period blood everywhere..yep its a gross as it sounds! and do you know what my missis says when i complain about it?.... "its natural"....
anyway that aside shes lovely, and still very much a puppy in the way she acts!we bought her a new toy the other day, its like a long rope legged duck with a squeeky belly and big pink feet. we have named the thing flibble and already after a day piglet has worked out its this thing that is called flibble. we just came back to the house and let her out in to the garden, she took the flibble with her and left it out there. hannah said "go get your flibble" to her and she leaped in the air and ran into the garden grabbed it and then proudly paraded it through the house... shes such a funny little creature

i completely agree with the house atmosphere being improved byanimals we have a dog,3 cats and 2 budgies.. i cant imagin not having them around anymore! it does take a lot more to keep the place tidy and not smelly but its worth it!!
