Stan Tracey RIP
One of the finest British jazz pianists sadly left us yesterday. Stan Tracy started his career playing piano in a jazz band on the Atlantic cruise ships crossing to America, and so was fortunate enough to be exposed to the jazz giants when he took shore leave.
Later he was the resident pianist at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London. He made his name through one of his compositions: a jazz suite based on Dylan Thomas's radio play ‘Under Milk Wood’.

I remember seeing him perform this piece in the early ‘70s, and later saw him play several times with his quintet or septet at the Bull’s Head in London during the ‘90s, with such notable horn players as Art Theman, Don Weller and Alan Skidmore.
Still recording and performing up to the end: Britain has lost one of its finest jazz performers. He will be missed
