Christmas Presnts - buying rules

Talking to one of my acquaintances today with a grown family

Close family buy only 1 gift for each other - must be from the £1 shop

Extended family buy only 1 gift, up to £5, must come from a charity shop

and it is very interesting to see the presents they get

Sounds good to me too Mike . far too commersialised these days . Then it's Valentines day , then it's Easter.... On and on it goes .

I buy 90% of mine in the dead zone between christmas day and new years eve. There are so many things at stupid prices, the cheapo box set gifts, xmas cards etc. I wrap up using funky wall paper samples, free from the large DIY sheds ( get a good few meters at a time). So by new years day, all cards for the following year wrote and stamped, 90% of gifts wrapped up and in the loft cupboards with the cards.
The special gifts for the mrs etc i make, or buy through out the year. last year my mrs was filming in Uganda, she kept talking about the red mud roads and how amazing they were, so when see got back i kept the mud from the bottom of her boots after i cleaned them, and used it in a necklace i had made for her. Silver with an insert, which i filled with the dried red mud and some pearls ( Uganda is known as the pearl of Africa), a bit of resin to hold in place , polish, job done. She loves it....
This xmas time as the norm i will be in a pub watching all those shoppers going nuts...

+1 We only buy for the grandchildren. We don't send Christmas cards either;the money that would have been spent on cards and postage goes to charity instead.

SWMBO has been recycling the same two cards for a few years now, otherwise she wouldn't get one!, not big on christmas I just buy gifts when the mood takes me, although Archie has bought her a Terry's chocolate orange for her to open on the 25th, had to help him wrap it though.

I do the same except my favourite charity is MVC, or My Vinyl Collection, its amazing how many extra bits of vinyl end up in my listening room at this time of year.
