It's just really annoying?

I mean, Zappa got it right?

It comes across like it's patronising?
Trying to control a conversation?
And this makes it even worse when you know the person isn't as informed as you might be?

Regardless if it's speaking like a girl or if it's more pronounced in the female side it's still a horrible way of speaking.

Drives me nuts
I often have the "was that a question ...... or can they not speak properly"
Usually it's part of an ongoing dialogue but annoying and confusing
I've been looking to see how far back in US and Aus films it appears. Some way it seems, just didn't have it incessant before

I turn a leaf of caution when I hear anyone say that to me, especially in business where it's probably used the most.

But I have said before now 'please can you rephrase that, not sure if that was a question, was that a question?' when up-speaking was overly used in meetings. The times I have said that the sentence was repeated normally.

One of my hated figures from recent history, He single handedly invented Mother Teresa as a saintly figure when she was nothing of the sort and basically talked cobblers about everything. Filling space was all he did, if you know what I mean.:)
