I still use the £10 Timex that I got for my 18th Birthday. providing that I remember to wind it, it still keeps near enough correct time. I have changed the strap a couple of times.

The only other watches I've had were Hong Kong specials from eBay. 99p each with Alfa and Lotus logos. Lasted about six months but looked OK.

Can't see the point of spending much. As Al said, the time is all around us now and I don't do jewellery so don't like the bling.

Too many people dress to impress I reckon whereas I always thought clothes were to protect me from the elements.

That goes for the Hi-Fi too (the bling bit that is).

It never leaves my wrist. Apart from being a superb timekeeper (keeps to about 15s a year), it has very sentimental value.

I am too getting to the point of not worrying so much about keeping an eye on clocks and watches, hence I am moving away from watches that have more functions than I have hairs on my head, to ones with a plain simple face that I can quickly look at without the aid of a magnifying glass. Love the Citizen Eco Drives with all the bells and whistles, but you have to gawp at the bloody things to see where the hands are :eek: Hence the watch I have just bought in my first post, which is plain and simple :D

Me too but I cut back recently when I got to about 120!! Apart from the Swiss and German watches I got into Russian watches, the new Poljots and Vostoks and watches from the Soviet Union era. I also service mine my self, did a few on-line courses and practiced on old movements bought of EBay, very rewarding. I have so many photos I wouldn't know where to start! I'll have to trawl through my photo bucket account.

I think that EVERY watch is a miniature work of art and a credit to all who contribute to it's manufacture. In fact, I would say that the "simpler" the design of watch dial is, the harder it is to hide behind imperfections.

As for the expensive watches, most if not all of them have very little mass production within them because the tolerances they are made to could never be achieved on a flowing production line. Even a simple design feature like a logo embossed onto the crown takes countless hours to create the stamp and engine turning on the movement isn't quick or cheap either, so I have no issues at all with people owning watches with four figure plus watches on their wrists because I presume they too appreciate craftsmanship the way I do and are fortunate enough to be able to afford them.

Its a divers watch, good for 300M (theoretically?) and the face is a solar panel, never needs batteries and the case is solid with no removable back, so perfect for a dive watch. I don't do jewellery or bling and a watch as far as I'm concerned is just something that tells the time, function over form for me, but each to their own ;)

I did once have a Tag Heur Pro Sports watch, bought it second hand for 200 from a mate (total steal at a fraction of its worth), but after a battery change and service cost me over 100 I thought WTF! I bought a leather TAG watch box off eBay for 35 quid, put it on eBay with its service receipt and nice leather box and sold it for just under 500 quid . . . result and I was glad to see the back of it. #wipesbrow

Many do! Mechanical watches can be a pain. Typically you should have got 40+ hours from a full wind. Automatics require movement so if your daily routine is mainly sedentary they never get fully wound.

This is my daily use watch - Pulsar V733-5000 - this model usually has a black face, I've never seen another with the gold face so quite rare although not at all valuable. It is light and easy to wear and attracts a lot of positive comments from people who know nothing about watches, far more so than my very non-bling Rolex. Not a very good picture I'm afraid, I took a much better one on my phone but can't seem to upload it:

Quartz watches can be made very cheaply indeed.

Some nice examples of watches on this thread liked that vintage Rolex Oyster way more than the new ones.

Traditionally I've used a Timex Expedition like this one, which is a great everyday watch for £35.

If I had some spare cash I'd get my favourite watch - a Stauer Graves 33. It usually costs £150 for the stainless steel and £180 for the gold. At the moment The Daily Mail have the ss for £100 and I'm tempted.
