I'm new to the forum obviously. I live in Fort Worth. My kit consists of Mac Mini fed firewire from an external HD feeding a Rega DAC via glass toslink cable routed via anti-IC cables to a waiting Rega Brio-R out via anti-cables to Dynaudio Excite X12s mounted on sand filled metal stands complemented by a REL T-3 sub and ample room treatments. I listen to wide a variety of music but mostly POP/Jazz (Diana Krall), classical, and film scores spiced with rock and some folk. Since I enjoy the British audio sound I thought I would hook up with my brothers from different mothers.

A cousin of mine (and former business partner) was happily married to a lady from Fort Worth for 25 years. Secret of the happy marriage was that she lived in Fort Worth and he lived in London.
Nothing to do with audio, just through I'd mention it.

However, his lifelong friend was Harvey Goldsmith, one of the greatest music promoters of all time (look him up on Wiki), so we got lots of tickets to great gigs and a love of music was born.

Also love Diana Krall (married to a Brit - such good taste). When is Gillian Welch going to release her catalogue on vinyl?

No turntable? Do LPs melt in the summer sun?

I've never owned LP's so I see no reason to start I guess. Maybe if I listened to some I might be a convert.

True, but I don't really know anyone who is into LP's so I've had no exposure other than a cheap record player which I grew up listening to the Beatles on. I Might fall in love with the sound of a good turntable.

You almost certainly would which is why I said what I did. The problem is that compared to digital the expense is hideous. Now you can pick up a competent deck for 300 to 400 USD, that's not the issue. Good cartridges are no longer cheap , though, and replacement styli or re-tips are pricey too. That's an on-going cost, something you don't have with digital. With the cost of a replacement stylus for my Nagaoka I reckon it costs me about 50 cents a side to play my LPs. You will need a good wet/vacuum record cleaning machine, and that is an essential even if you restrict yourself to buying brand new records, so that is another 500 USD plus the cost of quality anti-static inner sleeves and the cleaning fluid itself.

But if you fancy it and you are not skint there is no doubt that vinyl replay has a magic that digital cannot match when it comes to listening appreciation despite being the technically inferior medium on paper.
