Help please: Borrow/rent a reel-reel machine for a week or two, Portsmouth area?

Hi Guys

Bit of a long shot here, but is there anyone around the Portsmouth area that has a Reel to Reel machine that I could borrow or rent for a week or two? I have a quantity of tapes of my Grandfather telling his life story that were recorded on a Grundig TK140 at 33/4ips four track. I have the original machine, but it desperately needs a service and all I want to do is transfer the tapes to digital so servicing this old valve machine or buying a new one seems a bit silly.

I'd be happy to come and collect and leave a cash deposit.

I did the same a few years ago and surprised my Grandmother (now sadly also departed) with some tape transfers of my Grandfather from the late 70’s (also done on an old Grundig). He died in 1981 and she hadn’t heard his voice in 25 years. I’m in Cheltenham, if you are prepared to drive up. I have standard 2 track Revox A77, which should suit the purpose. PM me of that would help.

The tapes that Val wants to copy are 4-track, so playing them back on a 2-track machine will produce interesting results: one track will be running backwards and will be superimposed on another!
