"Padded lampposts are being trialled in a London street to protect inattentive pedestrians.

A pilot scheme has been launched in Brick Lane after it was found to have the highest number of 'walking and texting' injuries in the country. A study carried out by 118 118 found one in ten people has hurt themselves while focused on their mobile phone screen.

The charity Living Streets is so concerned that it has teamed up with the directory enquiries service to test a scheme to wrap up the nation's lampposts. A poll will be carried out on Brick Lane to gauge the response of locals. If successful, the concept will be rolled out in Birmingham, Manchester, and Liverpool."

Yep, that's right. People who are too stupid to look where they are going are being protected from their own idiocy. What the f---!*? This country has gone mad!

I wonder, do you think if the lampposts were fitted with a collar of brightly painted 6" nails then folk would learn quite quickly to look where they're going?

Or how about this as a solution...

Yep, that explains why my council tax has risen by 12% this year!

Have another read of the text, it's a charity and directory enquiries who are teaming up to do this...so far. But it's only a matter of time :mental:

Complete lunacy !!

So it seems it's necessary to protect idiots who text whilst negotiating busy streets but no one previously thought about this for blind people.

This could well bring on another, as my wife calls it, Grumpy day :)

Personally the second option appeals most to me with the caveat that the imprint is permanent

Well blind people are generally not texting whist they walk, more than likely they're concentrating very hard.

They've got their special paving slabs though.
