As a youngster growing up in the 70's I found 'The Professionals' to be absolutely compelling TV. This was a massively influential show in terms of the history of this kind of genre. What a great cast - the physicality and energy of Lewis and Martin Shaw was just amazing, with old Gordon Jackson pulling the strings in the background. Awesome stuff.

I don't recall seeing him in much apart from the Professionals - I think he was in a film called "Who Dares Wins" or somesuch but...

The Professionals still turn up on one of the ITV channels on the Sky box - if I have an idle moment, I won't resist the temptation to sit down and watch. Happy days eh?

The Professionals was a favourite show of my youth - Sunday night nine 0'clock IIRC.

They didn't get repeated until about '96 when a cable channel showed them all again - I watched every one.

Bodie was my hero but the birds all fancied Martin Shaw - go figure as the septics say.

Currently showing on ITV4. It was the sort of show you lapped up as a kid but your dad would be sat there pointing out all the non-sequitors and silliness. I was watching an episode earlier this evening - Bodie takes his girlfriend out in a rowing boat and spots a German terrorist (as you do) and apprehends him - but he can't call for back up as he has left his walkie-talkie in his Capri Ghia - in plain view on the passenger seat. Regular viewers will know that these were amazing gadgets back in the day, the size of a portable shaver with unlimited range and able to patch into the antiquated 1970s GPO telephone network in a trice. Just the sort of thing you would leave in your car.

He would have made a great Bond though; RIP four-five.
