Since getting my turntable on the go my CD player just doesnt cut it any more i have some Vinyl and CD's by the same bands and the Vinyl just sounds so much nicer so looks like im going to try and replace all my CD's with vinyl,even the missus walked and f&*k me that sounds excellent we just cant stop listening vinyl now, infact shes not a hifi head but she's got right into it now oh bugger looks like we gonna be taken over vinyl :lol: i do love vinyl you cant beat it (some will probly say you can) but im glad ive rekindled my love for Vinyl again .

It may do Dan although your Quad CDP is no mean performer in itself. I run an Arcam CD72 through a Rega DAC and the resulting sound is wonderfully analogue. Mind you, the CD72 has a particularly good DAC circuit onboard so it sounds pretty good through its analogue out sockets. Using it with the Rega takes things up a notch however ;)

My Meridian 507 sounds excellent, but using it as a transport into a Theta DS Pro Progeny DAC definitely takes things up a couple of notches further soundwise and bunging a Monarchy DIP (jitter buster) into the mix adds even more!

I sold my Arcam CD23T after buying the Technics. I had virtually stopped playing CDs

The Arcam sounded stunning and I loved it but I couldn't justify keeping a £1500 CD player to play the odd CD so it had to go.

I bought a maplins Dac for £36 and use a Panasonic bluray player to listen to CDs now or feed the TV into the amp via the Dac.

I still rarely listen to CDs though, I mainly listen to radio and vinyl.

Yeah from now on i be buying Vinyl !! Tbh im not gonna be buying Dac's and things just means more wires and more boxes. My cd player will now be occasional use and that's a fact :)

I'm sure mine will still get use. The NVA streamer is very good, and Nick's dac makes it even better. I've been spending a bloody fortune on fancy vinyl though...

How does the Monarchy DIP work Geoff and where does one place it in a system?

Jitter busters (of which I have three) are installed between the player/transport and DAC. They definitely have a positive influence on the sound quality in my experience


Oh, and I have to say that I find my CD playback as satisfying as my vinyl, both sound superb, but different.

Finding second hand vinyl in the condition I want takes time and money ... I'm not prepared to pay some of the silly prices on ebay so I bide my time. But when I get a great recording in near mint condition, the satisfaction is immense for me. I very rarely listen to cd nowadays and my cd player is no mean performer - it's been this way for a couple of years now I think!

The place to spend the "silly money" is on a RCM, then the world of cheap 2nd hand vinyl from charity shops and jumble sales opens up :) Just today I was talking to the Mrs. about the CD side of things and we decided that the Orelle CD 10 T will probably go and if we want to play CDs we will put them on the Mac Mini server or the Sony Blu-Ray on the home cinema system. The Sony goes into the A/V amp via optical and has also has stereo analogue outs. I have multicore tie lines between the racks which are on opposite sides of the room, so it's easy to do). We just seem to prefer the analogue sources, vinyl, radio and tape.

I like both formats. Fortunately my extreme laziness meant I never got around to selling my LPs, so there's no need to spend time and money tracking down stuff that's no longer in print.

Yep, the best way to listen to music I've found is to have a small'ish quality Vinyl collection (about 400 LP's) for the records that really matter to me and a streamer / Spotify for everything else, as there is just so much good music that you can't get on Vinyl.
