Hello from cold, overcast Melbourne. Ideal weather to do a bit of listening and tweaking. I came across this forum whilst googling mods for the Technics Sl 1200 which I've just bought two examples of secondhand. I'm currently making an aluminium armboard so I can pop my JH Formula IV unipivot (read Mayware) onto one of the decks along with my AT33PTG MC and compare it to the std Technics arm. I also intend to make an external power supply and try to mod the bejesus out of the std arm.:)

Hi Mulane, welcome to AOS.

If tweaking a Techie is your thing then you'll be in good company here, and I know several members who will congratulate you on both your choice of deck and cartridge.

Regards

Steve

Hi Mulane

Welcome to the forum...enjoy.

What kind of music do you like ? What sort of system do you have ? Maybe you might like to post some pictures of your system in the gallery section of the forum.

Thank you. I will try to get some pictures up soon. As well as the turntables mentioned above I use a Tascam CD-RW4U CD player/recorder (a lovely unit) into

a Pioneer A400 (seperated into pre and power) as a preamp going into a Rotel RB-980BX power amp, then through homemade cables and into large self-built

transmission line speakers which use KEF drive units (yes I love bass). I also use an M-Audio USB external soundcard to play FLAC files etc from the PC.

Hi Mulane - welcome to AOS. I think you might find a few people here who share your interest in modding the 1210  It's great to have some antipodean company on here too. How's the weather your way? We're experiencing a mini-heatwave - it feels how I imagine Oz to be all the time!

Hi Mike, thanks.

Hi Beechwoods, well glad to hear you having some nice weather up there! Unfortunately we have just entered winter and we're all comming down with swine flu but thankfully its a very mild flu and not dangerous if you relatively healthy.

Its really only warm all year round in the north of the country. Down here at the southern tip we get quite cold winters due to the "roaring forty" winds which blow up from the Southern ocean and Antarctica!

As far as musical preferences I like alternative country/folk like Fleet Foxes, Laura Jean and Dawn Landes, a bit of dance/techno if its recorded well and beautiful classics like Len Cohen and Joni Mitchell. And some of the better latest pop stuff.

I saw Leonard recently in concert but was a bit disappointed - it was like Leonard Cohen and his Las Vegas showband - a bit over the top. Did anyone here see him recently?
