I'm in need of a pair of decent closed cans for harmonious domestic use rather than travel. Anything in good clean nick considered.

Superlux HD 662 are far better than they have any right to be & only cost £30 new... I sold all of my expensive cans after hearing them :)

Thanks for that, at that price I might well try a pair, if only as spare.

I'm still looking higher up the price range though.

Plenty of choice in the Ultrasone range especially if you want cans that sound more like open backed than closed back. The pro range tend to be more comfortable apparently.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD25 I-IIs which I've always found to be a decent set of closed cans although they are like 20+ years old now (if you've got a wide melon like me they can feel a bit uncomfortable after a couple of hours use mind although saying that i feel the tension has weakened since i bought them). Beyerdynamic have the DT1350 to rival the HD25s which I've read a lot of good things about too - there's a few videos on youtube comparing the two.

Head-fi have a decent guide to headphones here: http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide (it is a bit date now but still a good starting point as it classes cans via price/style)

Also matey from InnerFidelity has a "Wall of fame section" for both:

Closed Full Size: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-full-size-sealed
Closed On Ear: http://www.innerfidelity.com/content/innerfidelitys-wall-fame-ear-pad-sealed

Headfonia another good site: http://www.headfonia.com/category/headphones/

Anyways i would just have a little browse on the Head-fi forums, it's great for head phone chat.

All the best in your venture!

Howard:- Yes, I agree, but I'm not sure too many people will be offering them up for £200 !!
Jayson. I take your point regarding comfort, I too am an extreme bighead !
I've been keeping an eye on head fi as well as other forums. I'm sure something will turn up...

The UE6000s (featured on the Inner Fidelity list) are a good option.
RRP is £169 but Logitech currently have them on offer at £89.

Thanks for that John,
I must admit that the active noise reduction puts me off, I'm somewhat old fashioned in these matters, but having just read the Inner Fidelity review, they do sound like a possible option. It's not outside noise that prompts me to look for closed cans, but the desire to keep my wife happy. She's not to keen on Miles Davis presented via my open headphones when she's engrossed in a book. Strange that.....

Fortunately, it can be bypassed on this model (unlike others like the Bose QC models).
I have never actually used the noise cancelling!
