The Mordaunt Short Pageant II speakers have 2 switches on the back. One for ''Top'' & other for ''Mid''

You can either have both switches on ''Level'' or ''cut'' Or have them in any position you like- one up & other down :)

I know a few members here have owned Pageant IIs. What position did you lot leave the switches on?

Just curious :)

I cant 100% recall how I had them but I think it was mid cut / top level.

From the manual: "Acoustic Balance Controls: Independent toggle switches affording four choices of frequency response: Mid-frequency: level or -2dB, 1000-3,500 Hz. High frequency: level or -2dB, 3,500-25,000 Hz."

I mapped the x-over... The mid adjustment is via a centre tapped inductor & the top adjustment is via an additional resistor that can be switched in.

I've always enjoyed having the mid on ''level'' & high on ''cut'' on my pageants. Must try having the both switches on ''level'' when I return back to London.

Yep, I found one way sounded totally preferable to the rest. It way either mid cut / top level or mid level / top cut... Didn't sound as good both level.

Rogers A100 and Ariston RD 80,rega arm P77 cart, Nad cassette deck
They replaced my Heybrook HB2s
My mate also used the MS Pag ser2 with a Linn LP12 Ittok supex 900, Quad 33/303 and it blew my system away

I still have my old Rogers 'A100' don't have the matching tuner but have the older analogue 'T75' which is a visual match anyway, i always thought the 'T100' didnt look quite right imho..

No, the Pageants were completely original. I did recap a pair of Carnival II's ... Wow! Completely transformed them, still a bit too boxy sounding though.

Well, my Pageants are re-capped & I still use the switches on odd positions !! But of course the new caps have cleaned up the sound !! I still have the orignal caps you know! Their sight remind me of old candles :)

That will be the old Elcaps, defo worth replacing with poly props IMO. The Ansar supersounds are good and cheap

I remember reading in hifi mags in the early 80s that a good tweak involved replacing the (supposedly sound degrading) fuse with a short piece of 79 strand speaker cable tinned at both ends.

I guess it would be a good place to start assuming care with the volume knob...
