This has stirred up something of a hornets nets online, any thoughts ? I find the very thought of it diabolical as I would imagine most animal loving Brits would... Anyone here pro trophy hunting/ killing animals for fun I wonder ?

No chance - the very idea is utterly abhorrent. In fact, I feel so strongly about the matter that I'd seriously consider banning anyone here in favour of it!!

I even tell my family off for stomping spiders.
I'd shoot vermin though. Lots of rats round this way (some of the human variety too. They'd be fair game in my book if it was legal).

Absolutely abhorrent! I agree with Marco..... ban anyone who approves of it. And I'm normally a vocal advocate of free speech... but this is like saying paedophiles are good guys.... if you agree with it!!!! :eek:
At least she has saved some Zebras from being killed ... oh, no ... I guess not. Actually I find it difficult to 'project' to imagine how it could be fun.

She'd be very welcome to visit us and take a tour of our estate.
I could show her all the animals we keep for food and describe the ways we despatch them which should amuse her.
I would then introduce her to the gun we keep in the greenhouse:guns:
With the scope on that rifle of hers she could have shot the lion at 2 miles so I'm not sure why she had to stalk it to 60 yards...maybe she's not such a good shot.
I recall reading that killing animals for fun is how serial killers start out. I'm not against hunting but you have to eat what you kill, or sell it to be eaten. Or it must be part of a necessary cull or control. No-one eats lion as far as I know. And the article says that they breed lions specifically to hunt them, that is really pretty wrong on a number levels and should be stopped. If she wants to test her mettle she should volunteer for service in Afghanistan or somewhere and see if she still thinks it is fun when her quarry is shooting back.

There is such a thing called 'learning from one's mistakes'. With an open mind, some compassion, together with the ability to demonstrate having a conscience, one would hope that this rather callous female would respond to being shown the error of her ways...!
If not, I'd quite happily throw her into the lion's den and let 'nature take its course'... ;)

I find trophy hunting utterly and completely repellent in every way. However, licensed game hunting goes on all the time in SA - interesting that this woman seems to have hit a particular nerve - if the report is accurate, she was hunting in a licensed 'conservancy hunting park', so instead of trying to get this excuse for a human-being banned from South Africa, which will of course not happen, surely people should put their efforts into protesting about why these kind of hunting safaris are sanctioned by the government in the first place?

The reason why it is allowed to continue is, like most things, because of the money that surrounds it.

It's not like it is even a challenge. One of my brother went on safari in Kenya, he said the place is teeming with wildlife - a pride of lions walked right past his landrover. Any idiot with 5 minutes instruction could shoot a whole bunch of animals without even getting out of the jeep. Nobody normal is impressed by this stuff. But as Chris says, there is money in it so it will continue I suppose.

Fence off Dartmoor, let loose the scum that repeatedly kill and rape, the paedophiles, the abusers, then have some "trophy hunters" earn their keep there. Brady wouldn't be going on hunger strike and whining about dying that's for sure when being chased.
It's what crosses my mind when I see photos of these low-lifes and degenerates, a better solution then cooping them up in jails.

Someone earlier on in this thread said that there was a clear difference between killing an animal for food and killing an animal purely for the thrill it gives them. I suppose when you render it down to it's basic level there is a dead animal by human hands in both scenarios and in truth both are morally suspect - as vegetarians and vegans believe. Do we then take that argument one step further and say that a lion killing a zebra for food slowly and painfully by hunting and capture with tooth and claw is also morally corrupt?
Quite often I will look at meat on my own dinner plate and think that I am eating the flesh of a once living and breathing creature who didn't "deserve" to die just so I can eat it. But the reality is that even if I didn't consume that flesh because of my own conscience it would have been killed ANYWAY to feed many others. There is always hope that it died quicker and painlessly than being hunted down with tooth and claw in the wild, although there is well recorded evidence of unbelievable cruelty and suffering that exists is some abattoires,

There is something very disturbing about people who feel the need to kill potentially lethal animals [ in a fair fight anyway] for so called sport, with a gun from a safe distance, they are in my opinion, cowards, and very shallow and insecure human beings, not fit to be classed as human really.
Anyone who kills animals to eat' i have no problem with...
It really saddens and sickens me to know these practices still go on in a modern society.:(
